TD

What a great opening MN drive. 2 passes to simmons, 3 to decker. TD Decker!!!!

Good start for the Gophs

Nice looking opening drive, concluding with a Weber TD pass to Eric Decker.

7-0, Gophers, about five minutes in.

We're comin!

We’re comin! Although the Illini helped out with a facemask and kick out-of-bounds.

Decker now has 14 plays of 20 yds or more.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:14 AM CDT reply actions

we overcame a 1st and 20 after a sketchy call as well. That was a huge start!

clink the bottles…let’s go defense

Sack

keep up the pressure boys

by goldybobblehead on Oct 11, 2008 11:20 AM CDT reply actions

Stupid Ron Zook…fourth and one and you outthink yourself by kicking a 46-yard FG

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:26 AM CDT reply actions

And MISS !!!

45 yarder no good. Gophers take over!

by goldybobblehead on Oct 11, 2008 11:27 AM CDT reply actions

You guys are behind.

by Tony_O on Oct 11, 2008 11:27 AM CDT reply actions

I’m behind because I have a beer in one hand…that was a big first down. Momentum stays with us.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:29 AM CDT reply actions

After sack and false start, gophers faced a 3rd and 22…. run to protect the ball.. and punt

by goldybobblehead on Oct 11, 2008 11:32 AM CDT reply actions

Negative plays

Two sacks and a couple of negative plays…have to cut those out.

Still, Weber is 8-for-8.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:34 AM CDT reply actions

injuries

Can we ever go a game without a key player getting injured?

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:38 AM CDT reply actions

Injury

To me, Deon may have just gotten his wind knocked out of him.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:40 AM CDT reply actions

D-line

Seems to be getting dominated

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:44 AM CDT reply actions

And then...

…as soon as I say that, they get a sack. Nice.

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:44 AM CDT reply actions

We’re bringing only 3 or 4 at times w/ Juice’s speed. I think that plays a little into it. When they brought a blitz – Lee Campbell got a sack.

Big drive…kill some clock and get at least a FG attempt.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:46 AM CDT reply actions

D-Esk

Nice little scamper.

Field Position

It still gave Illinois worse field position

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:52 AM CDT up reply actions

Sacks

O line – 2 sacks given up
E-Ridge – 1 sack given up

In my mind, too much running. Haven’t gone to Decker the last two drives.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:52 AM CDT reply actions

Weber hasn’t had time to throw to him. It is painful.

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:53 AM CDT up reply actions

Damnit

How many chances did we have to sack him?

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:55 AM CDT reply actions

Sherels is in uniform, but have not seen him. Collado is horrible. Nice hit, but yes, illegal

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:56 AM CDT reply actions

Tackling

I’ve seen Steve Davis miss a bunch, but, this group at times is a step slow and only uses their arms. Can’t do that in a big game.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 11:57 AM CDT reply actions

chop block

did i hear correctly that there were two chop blocks?

by rencito on Oct 11, 2008 11:59 AM CDT reply actions

This drive will tie it up.

by GopherPride on Oct 11, 2008 11:59 AM CDT reply actions

What did you think

about that Oklahoma score.. almost a handoff or forward pass

by goldybobblehead on Oct 11, 2008 12:06 PM CDT reply actions

I think it was fine, just a bobble I think. (I can see that game, as opposed to this one.)

by plinytheelder on Oct 11, 2008 12:08 PM CDT up reply actions

Kicker

Needs to be benched. That is unexcusable.

GOPHER BALL!!!!!!!!!!

by Tony_O on Oct 11, 2008 12:13 PM CDT reply actions

Isn’t it a penalty to run with the ball after you call a fair catch?

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 12:14 PM CDT reply actions

BULL

he lowered his head with the intent to run

by goldybobblehead on Oct 11, 2008 12:14 PM CDT reply actions

At least...

…the refs were consistent…I’ll give them that…because the first one wasn’t a fair catch signal either.

Not bad. They receive the ball.

Signal

By his intent to run, he’s not trying to call for a fair catch. But, it is a point of empasis this season to clearly signal. shouldn’t the play have been ruled dead right away? Why didn’t they blow it dead?

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 12:18 PM CDT reply actions

nice work guys

so I can’t watch the game, all I have is a box score. How have the Gophers looked? What has been their defensive strategy?

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Oct 11, 2008 12:33 PM CDT reply actions

Opening drive looked great

After that, I think Brad Childress took over the play calling duties, because it’s looked awfully conservative.

The Defense

Looks like a Hooker, They are getting used by Juice Williams, then some how they step it up when the ball in in there own zone.

by Tony_O on Oct 11, 2008 12:37 PM CDT up reply actions

thanks Gonzo

that was descriptive enough, I now can picture exactly what happened after that drive. The Kick Ass Offense is clearly in a league of it’s own.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Oct 11, 2008 12:36 PM CDT reply actions

Lots of 4-4, or even 3-5 on defense. We’re bringing the heat a bit – 3 sacks.

Offense has been way too much run. I understand we’re trying to control the clock (keep Juice off the field), but three straight drives with no throws to DEcker is not good. He had six catches in the opening two drives.

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 12:37 PM CDT reply actions

The last drive was three straight runs out of the shotgun…we need to get a bit more imaginative then that.

Benn has been their best threat thus far.

E-Ridge TD 14-3

Why do we run a 1/2 yard play out of the shotgun?

tavale

Tavale hobbling around…his bad knee again

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 12:44 PM CDT reply actions

with that

The Offense Needs to match them drive for drive the rest of way, or we need to the D to step up Big.

I was not Sir unfortunatly...

I was at the Homecoming Football game for my Almamater High School last night. and up here visiting family in Hibbing, i caught the recaps and all that, sounded like a good game, surprised the gophers didnt score a few more goals, the funniest score i heard of the night was the UMD Bulldogs skating to a 2-2 Tie with Lake Superior State.

Defense has 4 sacks and has gotten fairly good pressure. Illinois probably tried running the ball too much in the first half. They’ve been fairly successful through the air.

Illinois missed a FG and has been stuffed on the 1/2 yard line. We also forced them into 2 FGs.

by PJS on Oct 11, 2008 2:27 PM CDT up reply actions

you realize

the Gophers might actually enter the top 25 this week? Do you think it’s possible? A 6-1 team with at least one pretty good win, and on the road at that…you’ve got to think that’s going to sway a few voters at least. Maybe that reporter from Jersey who voted for the Gophers wasn’t so crazy after all!

I still don’t really think this is a top-25 team, but hey, I’ll take it. One more win for a bowl (one more win to make sure of it that is).

by plinytheelder on Oct 11, 2008 2:26 PM CDT reply actions

I think they'll get votes. And I think Illinois is better than Purdue.

So winning next week on the road again isn’t out of the question.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

yeah why not?

who the hell would have thought 6-1, much less 7-1?

Toledo

First MAC win in the Big House. haha Rich Rodriguez

by HutchLeaderGuy on Oct 11, 2008 2:26 PM CDT reply actions

top 25?

If so, I am getting 2 hookers and leaving one dead in the trunk of my Lincoln

by Kelly Leeks on Oct 11, 2008 2:27 PM CDT reply actions

You all have been pessimized to death...

This is a big win, and you guys should start to think like fans of a winning team. It’s no longer a question of IF you’re going to a bowl game, but which bowl game you go to. I honestly think you could win out your remaining games. You should be favored over Purdue, Michigan, and probably Iowa. Northwestern is a paper tiger. Wisconsin will be tough, but they’re definitely beatable.

Imagine that. An 11-1 season with your only loss to Ohio State is well within the realm of possibility. Not only that, but the symmetry with last season would be beautiful. If you all manage that, we could potentially have 3 11-1 teams assuming OSU wins out and PSU only loses to Ohio State. Who’d have thought?
