Myron Metcalf's New Blog & Paul Carter

Myron Metcalf of the StarTribune has started a brand new Gopher Basketball Blog with a first entry - http://ww3.startribune.com/blogs/gophersbb/   I'm guessing that GN & PJS will find themselves linking to Myron on a regular basis.

While the football team continues to surprise and delight us many of us are looking forward to what is ahead for Tubby Smith's Gopher team this winter.  As everyone knows, Tubby brought in 5 very highly recruited players which should increase the talent level across the board.  The least well known of these 5 was Paul Carter - a JC transfer that comes in as a Sophomore.  Word has been trickling out that Paul may be a strong contributor and then this entry was posted in Myron's first blog post -

Tubby Smith told me that Paul Carter may be the star of his first recruiting class as Gophers head coach. When I talked to him Monday, he said that Carter’s such a multitalented player that he expects him to have an immediate impact. He’s definitely versatile.

Go check out Myron's blog for additional information, and as his first story says, bookmark it!

Myron

Although you have to applaud his effort, he’s really a poor beat writer for Gopher basketball. There were certainly a number of times last year where he was either wrong with his predictions (e.g. Westbrook playing time, etc.) or had bad information. For someone who spends as much time around the program as he does, hopefully he’ll improve this winter.

When I was a student at the ‘U’ I hardly picked up the Minnesota Daily, but Zach Eisendrath from the Daily was the best beat writer covering the Gophers last year. Maybe it’s because he was/is pals with Travis Busch…

If ...

… Myron puts out a good product, we’ll link to it. Last year he struggled. He wasn’t meeting anyone’s expectations last year, even some at the STrib I believe. I’ve never met the guy, so it’s nothing personal. If he has timely, accurate information it would be a benefit for those of us who follow the Gophers.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

Myron

If we can’t say anything nice about Myron, we shouldn’t say anything at all.

He’s better at being a beat writer than he was at being a running back.

And that’s about all I’ve got.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
