Monday Positivity

Right now, the Gophers are 5-1 (1-1).  That alone is reason for positivity.  But here's some more: Human College Football Computer Phil Steele (Humanity's only hope against Skynet) is predicting that the Gophers will finish the Big Ten 4-4, tied with Northwestern and Michigan St in a logjam in the middle.

A quick show of hands: Who here had the Gophers at 8-4 at the beginning of the year?  Make sure you point out if you were a complete homer or drunk.

I probably thought 5 or 6 wins would be considered a good season. If they don’t get 6 or more now, the season will disappoint.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

I DID, I DID

I’m a total homer, but last January I did actually say the following…

8-4 seems pretty aggressive. The Michigan game is probably a loss but that is my upset special. Indiana, Illinois and Purdue could all go either way. So officially I think 4-0 non conference is reasonable and should be expected this year. 4-4 in conference is aggressive but 3-5 isn’t crazy. I expect us to be more competitive with a defense that will occasionally stop (or at least slow down) somebody.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

I predicted 10-2...

but I was completely drunk at home.

I have since revised my prediction to 9-3.

Again… I was drunk.

Well, for the sake of disclosure...

I had 9-3, but I’m either an unabashed homer or an optimist. Either way, I’m looking less inept every weekend.

I would have considered 4-8 a step in the right direction.

I’m certainly hoping for more wins at this point but if all we did was win the last game against Iowa to have some momentum into 2009 I’d consider this year a big success.
