Blog Poll v7.1 - Week 6
Not much changed at the top and everything changed in the bottom half.
Apparently we are not officially listed on CBSSports.com. This is much bigger news than the release of my ballot. I have yet to actually see it on CBSsports.com, but now that we have a cool logo I'm sure it must be true.
Regarding my ballot. I have added a few teams this week. Pitt has returned for the first time since losing to Bowling Green in week 1. Oklahoma State belongs and I had yet to recognize them. And I believe Michigan State is better than they are given credit for. They could end up fighting the Fighting Illini for 4th in conference.

Wisconsin.
Maybe I’m biased because I would never cheer for Wisconsin but I don’t think they deserve a top 25 vote.
You're not alone
Take that overrated pile of crap out of the top 25, and replace them with a worthy team. Like Minnesota. Or Ball State. Or Minnesota.

I can't
maybe I have them too high, but they are still a pretty good team. I still think they are a top 25 worthy team. Two weeks ago people thought they could be a BCS title game team! Now they don’t belong in top 25? They are somewhere in the middle. A good team but not great.

No Way is Wisconsin Top 25 team
they shouldnt have been top 25 after they blew that 17-0 Lead to a Shotty Michigan team.
Bucky and the Wildcats
Illinois – fourth? I think they are the second best team behind Ohio State. Is Juice Williams not the best Qb in the conference?
Northwestern and Wisconsin don’t deserve to be ranked.
No love for FSU
I’m a huge Gopher fan, but my number one team is Florida State (where I currently am a student). Where is the love for them? The score from this past weekends game at Miami doesn’t show the dominant performance put on by our Offense and Defense. Go do yourself a favor and check out this post at Tomahawk Nation…

First Downs (FSU- UM): 28- 17
Time of Possession: 40:00- 20:00
Third Downs: (11-17)- (2-15)
Total yards: 485- 257
Total Plays: 82- 63
Rushing Yards: 326- 53
Rushing Yards: 326- 53 (Yes, I put it Twice)
Interceptions: 2-3
Fumbles: 2-0
Miami had no business being in that game and scored almost all their points on a really short field thanks to special teams miscues and fumbles. It’s a shame because the score makes it look like two evenly matched teams went at it when FSU really showed that they are on their way back up.
good comments...
Mooje – I think you have convinced me. Florida State is in. Now to decide who to drop…
Hutch Leader – Illinois the second best team behind OSU? They did already lose to Penn State by 14, they’ll lose to OSU and they’ll lose to Wisconsin. I can buy an argument that they are better than Mich St, but I’m giving the Spartans some love this week.
White Speedy – there is no way I could put Minnesota or Ball State ahead of Wisconsin and sleep at night. A straight fan poll absolutely, but if I try to take this at all seriously.
Let’s all remember that although Wisconsin lost they did give OSU all they could handle before a Pryor game winning drive. They held the OSU offense to two FGs for about 54 minutes of FB (in between the two TDs). There is no doubt in my mind they are one of the 25 best teams in the country.

Wake
They need to be moved down. Sure, they beat FSU in a really ugly game, but losing to Navy, then sitting on a bye week shouldn’t result in moving up… I don’t care who lost ahead of you.

I agree...
I think we see a OU vs Penn St national championship game. Although I’d love to see JoePa lose every game left on his schedule so Bobby can retake the lead.
You can't be serious, can you?
Florida State? This isn’t 2000, so beating Miami shouldn’t be grounds for leaping into the polls. I may joke about Minnesota needing to be in and Wisconsin needing to be out, but that’s just wrong.

Really?
So putting up that many yards up on the ground against the number four rush defense in the country does nothing for you? It’s also still Miami vs FSU, and both teams will come to play every year no matter what. I’d also like to think Miami and FSU could also do some serious damage to the bottom 7 of the big ten. WAY too much speed on both sides of the ball.
Well, time to find my serious hat.
No, gashing the Miami run D does not impress me. For two basic reasons:
1) It was too early to establish how good a team’s rank is in a statistical category. Just like Minnesota has played crap opposition to date, Miami’s schedule wasn’t impressive. Working over Charleston Southern, a puzzling Florida, a bad Texas A&M, and a up-and-down UNC doesn’t give you a true assessment of a team’s ability. Wake me up at the end of October if you want to use that arguement.
2) While injuries are part of the game, Miami lost it’s starting MLB (who was one of their leading tacklers) and replaced him with a true freshman. Experience at LB is invaluable, and giving up 30 lbs. doesn’t help either. That’s a recipe for disaster in the run game.
As for your assessment of “It’s also still Miami vs. FSU,” does’t mean anything. They’ve been terrible teams the last few years (in respect to what they did over the past 15-20 years). It’s grasping for straws. Should the winner of Army-Navy get instant respect? After all, it’s still Army-Navy, and both teams come to play every year no matter what. The same applies to Nebraska-Colorado.
Finally, speed does not equal wins. If that were true, Miami wouldn’t have lost many games since 2000. Florida and their track team that lines up at the skill positions would be scoring at will. LSU and their fleet of big, fast receivers would be putting up 70 a game. But they’re not, because there’s more to the game than that.
If FSU continues to go out and beat the teams in front of them, I’ll rescind what I’ve said and give them more credit. The best thing they have going for them is that they’re in a terrible division. NC State, Maryland, and BC are just bad football teams. Clemson is poorly coached and will probably be starting over next year, and Wake is….well, mediocre to average.

Uhh...
LSU and UF both dismantled OSU because they were bigger and faster…Miami was 12-0 in 2001. Larry Coker was 60-15 from 2001-2006, and Randy Shannon took over and has gone 7-10. Recently Miami has gone down under Shannon, thanks to the back end of Coker’s tenure at Miami, but give them a couple more years and they’ll be back.
Yes, Miami vs FSU does mean something, don’t roll Army-Navy into their level of rivalry. Both teams have still gotten top talent from around the country but have had poor coaching until recently. Even if a team is having a down year they come to play for big games. Bobby Bowden’s nepotism hurt the program, but to say they were terrible is a bit of a stretch… they took a step back, but they didn’t turn into the doormat of the ACC.
How would you have felt if the game was a blowout as it should have been? Would FSU then deserve to be in the top 25? I know you’re not supposed to let the other team score, but had it not been for poor special teams play that game probably should have been a 3 touchdown difference.
the Miami win isn't what does it for me
FSU is 5-1 losing only to a ranked team in a close game. I had them ranked in my first couple ballots and see no reason why I should not rank them now. The truth is there are a dozen teams that you could make a case for in the 22-25 range.
