Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.
running game
I honestly think they should approach this in the opposite way. They should use the pass to set up the run. Weber has been efficient so far—especially on first down. So keep throwing the ball and that will open up running lanes for Eskridge. Our OL isn’t good enough to push the Wildcats around and run the ball down their throats.
so keep throwing
we’re having success with it, so keep attacking, and keep them off balance with the run (again the opposite of the traditional run setting up the pass philosophy"
Again, Eskridge starts out heading east-west. ...

This Kafka guy can't be this hard to tackle.
Campbell’s flail at Kafka allowed that to go from 10 yards to 30.
Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.
that was great discipline
by Simoni. That would have been a 25 yard run a year ago. Very impressive that he stayed home like that.

Doesnt Matter
We should have won that game…..Northwestern Was playing with 2 of their Top Stars Out, How does Kafka Rush for 200+yards???
true,
but they’re 18 year old kids. Northwestern shouldn’t have lost to Indiana, etc.
by plinytheelder on Nov 1, 2008 2:19 PM CDT up reply actions
calls
I thought they should have just played for OT at first since they were backed up so far…then once they got some room to breathe and a fresh set of downs, they should have gone for it…but they went outside of what has made them successful…short to medium passes…instead they kept throwing long ones…they had enough time and TO’s to play a little smarter.
the truth of the matter is...
they probably are not as good as their record indicated…they have had razor close margin for error in a lot of their games this year. when games are that close, you can’t win them all, and it finally just ended up going against us this time. you could definitely say the opposite about last year—we weren’t as bad as our record indicated.
still…we have the chance to beat michigan in a down year, and then wisconsin and iowa. there is no reason to let up. this is still a really good year.
Kafka
just had a great game. maybe he saved up all his karma.
well, you guys take care and have a good rest of the day.

I don't think so.
Those teams had high expectations. This team has been exceeding expectations since week 3.
by plinytheelder on Nov 1, 2008 2:25 PM CDT up reply actions
totally disagree
We didn’t blow this one. It wasn’t like we were clearly superior in any facet of the game. If this game had gone into OT we very well could have lost it that way as well. Northwestern now has the same record as we do. So it isn’t like we lost to a bad team.
All the bandwagoners will now jump off. But there is still plenty of reason to cheer and be proud of them. There is still a lot they can accomplish.
I Would be ok with that
Hey you lost in Overtime…But their is No Damn Reason with game tied you have the ball in your own territory, with 47 seconds left to not go for Overtime, No Damn reason at all…Monroe Cant Kick 29 yard field goals, What are you doing?
Secondly, Monroe Doesnt Kick 49 yard Field Goals, He just doesnt, That was the Stupidest Call, The Fake Could have been seen from a Mile away, Come on, if you going to go for it, Bring the damn offense out and go for it. Jesus.
We go and Ruin 2 homecomings in Illinois and Purdue, And then We Get ours Ruined…..
so what?
So if you try a long field goal and miss then you go to OT. Who knows, maybe he does hit a 45-50 yarder. At least line up and kick it. The parts I disagreed with were trying to do it when we were inside our own 20. But once we were across the 30 with a first down, we had the time and timeouts to move another 30 yards possibly. But throwing long is not our strength. There is a reason we never see Weber throw downfield 95% of the time. Short-medium would have been better suited to our strengths.
Regardless of the call I don’t think this compares to the Michigan or Texas Tech debacles of the Mason era.
Brewster
It will be interesting to see how he rallies the team. After having success, how will he deal with adversity? Mason always seemed to crumble. But we can still have a WILDLY successful year—if we haven’t already. We can still get to 10 wins.
Successful Season?
I’m not with you that we’ve had a “wildly” successful season yet. The games we have won has been SOLELY on ridiculous and unsustainable turnover advantages. That is a sign of an average team at best. If we go toe to toe with a team, and don’t get the +2 or +3 turnovers…we lose.
I’m happy with the season in that we got some press and it appears recruiting is going ok. I’ve been looking to Weber’s senior season as my benchmark on where the program is going. 2010.
This season has not been WILDLY successful though. No way. Just like last season’s 1-11 season wasn’t nearly as bad as the record….all those games of losing by less than a touchdown. That to me says we are MARGINALLY better than last season. We aren’t blowing teams out guys….we are BARELY winning…and that is WITH heavy turnover advantages.
The best part about today was that it saved me $2,000 on a January bowl trip! I’ll put it in the kitty for next season.
I’ll be happy with a Jug or an Axe or a Pig…..
Still a success
If we finish 10-2 or even 9-3 I would still say that this was a wildly successful season for a team that went 1-11 last year.
I totally agree with your points about turnover ratios not being sustainable and the scores of our games are always close. Furthermore, look at our yards gained/yards allowed on the season. I think we have actually been outgained on the year. Based on those statistics, we should finish no better than 9-3 and maybe 8-4. Still, quite a turnaround and surely a successful season given the fact we were 1-11 last year and the youngest team in the Big 10. A pivotal season in the Brewster era and a stepping stone for things to come.
