Blog Poll v10.1

This week we get a little shakeup at the top and the bottom.

At the Top

I was very tempted to switch Florida and Alabama after the Gators dominated Georgia the way they did.  But Bama hasn't dropped on to a mid-level team yet.  9-0 trumps Florida for now.  Assuming everything goes as it should, the SEC Championship game will determine who will play Penn State in the BCS Title game.  Texas Tech can make things interesting if they can take care of the Oklahoma schools and then finish with the Big 12 Championship game.  There are some fun games ahead for college football fans.

At the bottom I dropped Minnesota.  We belong in the conversation around 23, 24 and 25 but after two weeks of uninspiring football I just can't rank them right now.

RankTeamDelta
1 Alabama 1
2 Penn State 1
3 Florida 4
4 Texas Tech 4
5 Texas 4
6 Oklahoma 2
7 Southern Cal 1
8 Oklahoma State 1
9 Ohio State 1
10 Georgia 5
11 Missouri --
12 LSU --
13 Boise State 1
14 TCU 1
15 Utah 2
16 Ball State 2
17 Michigan State 4
18 North Carolina 5
19 California 7
20 West Virginia 6
21 Pittsburgh 1
22 Georgia Tech 4
23 Northwestern 3
24 Kansas 1
25 Florida State 10

Dropped Out: Minnesota (#16), Tulsa (#19), Oregon (#20), South Florida (#24).

Please let me know if I missed someone who lost.  I think I got them all covered but me missing a team is entirely possible.

Florida #3?

I think this is going to be my campaign of the week. They lost to Ole Miss. At home. Sure, they’ve beaten the #10 and #12 teams on your ballot, but still. Ole Miss. I’m still working out where I’ll have the Gators on my ballot, but I can’t even come up with a way to justify putting them ahead of Texas (who lost at night, on the road, to an undefeated team), let alone Tech. If you’re going on some sort of power poll system, then you could argue Florida’s playing better football right now, but otherwise, I’ll assume you are utterly mad. Mad, I say!

I'm with Sean

There is simply no excuse for ranking Florida ahead of Texas Tech (unbeaten, good win to prove themselves as legit) or Texas (much better loss, and three wins that are better than any trio Florida can muster by a wide margin). Oklahoma is a fairly close call there; beating Kansas and TCU is not as good as the dismantling of Georgia, but they also have a far more respectable loss.

Also, LSU at #12 is at least 12 spots too high, probably more. They’ve played two teams of any value (Florida and Georgia), and both times they got roasted extra-crispy Cajun style. This ain’t your daddy’s SEC – after Georgia, there’s a heaping pile of mediocrity.
