Dunbar has to go

I had a scary premonition when I saw Adam Weber’s face when he was going out onto the field for the first series. I said to myself “he is going to fumble the snap” and, sure enough, he did. His look simply lacked focus. You could tell his mind was wandering. I think there was no confidence in the game plan. And, no wonder, because there was no game plan. Dunbar ran the same plays that he always runs. Iowa only had to follow the scouting report. The defenders beat the Gophers to the spot everytime. One of the biggest weaknesses of the Dunbar offense is that he does not move the pocket. Lou Holtz’s offensive strategy 101 preaches that the quarterback should set up in different spots in alternating fashion. Move the pocket left, right, short and deep. This prevents the pass rushers from using the same moves and taking the same route. Each pass rush requires adjustment and gives the edge to the offensive lineman. Weber sets up in the same spot everytime.

Dunbar’s record is not stellar. He only had success at Northwestern after Kustok and the rest of the offense had two years of seasoning in his system. Even then, those Northwestern teams had worse records than this year’s Wildcat team. I do not want to settle for a 10 win season once every four years. I want to have 10 win seasons every year and, to accomplish that, Dunbar is not the right guy.

Weber lacked focus

Isn’t it possible that Weber was looking to the right when the ball was snapped? Look at the tape. It was the center that lacked focus. Maybe that’s why the OL coach resigned.

I do think Dunbar's spread has been less than innovative.

Boring and predictable.

Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the War Room.

Losing Bennett

ended up being the biggest loss of the year.

Other than being in shotgun

…we very seldom spread the field. I’m not sure if it is because he doesn’t feel comfortable with the talent and personnel right now or if he really is that vanilla.

Can you imagine if we had last year’s offense and this year’s defense? If only…

What about special teams? More specifically fielding punts—inside our own 10. Over and over again.
