Even if we won the Rose Bowl

I’d still think the MSU game would be the bigger story. It’s no slight to the football team. The win would/will be huge, but it’s the time of the year that basketball gets put on the front burner. We’ll all celebrate both wins accordingly, but come Saturday, everybody’s attention will turn towards the Vikings and the rest of the NFL playoffs. There’s nothing really going on with any of college football until national signing day in February and spring practice in March. Until then, college hoops is the top NCAA attention getter.

A little far

If we were in a BCS game, the football game would definitely be THE story. As of right now, the basketball team is rolling and playing a big game that actually means something. The bowl game is nice, but whether we win or lose doesn’t mean much because the season is over regardless. You could say the same thing about a BCS bowl game, but that gets MUCH more national attention that would also give our program credibility.

The basketball game means a lot to the rest of the season, hence, it will get most of the attention. Also, the date and time will have a lot to do with the attention. Playing on new year’s eve night means not a ton of people will watch it. I won’t even watch it (that is where DVR comes in—and gives me another bowl game to watch on January 1—just to prepare me for future years!).

agreed

a BCS game would be the story win or lose and the basketball game would be burried in the sports section since it is December and only the first B10 game for hoops.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

I think the football game

Everyone knows we have a “chance” against Michigan State. On the other hand everyone knows we don’t stand a chance against Kansas. So I think the football win would be a bigger upset.
