Michigan State at Minnesota in the Big Ten Opener

Michigan St. Spartans at Minnesota Golden Gophers, Dec 31, 2008 11:00 AM CST

Game preview is down a couple posts.  Here is the official game thread.  I believe PJS is at the game and GN is at work, those of you with a TV need to keep me informed.

One question I have...does anybody think the 11:00 start time will have any affect on the game?  Is it an advantage for us that we are at least home?  I would think that being on the road and dealing with a weird tip off time could be an issue.  Althought Mich St is used to playing in big games all over the country (at Texas, at Ford Field for UNC, etc) in different venus so it isn't likely to affect them too much.

Go Gophs...

Good finish to the half for the gophers

let’s hope they can carry that into the 2nd half!

weird lineup for gophers

JAL, Busch, Hoff, Nolen, Colt45… but it has been working!

I snuck out to a TV

rebounding and transition D are killing us

rebounding is 34-19 in favor of MSU!!!

Well Theres the ball Game

We Looked Bad. But those Refs sure were Generous to Michigan State Quite a big today…..

by Tony_O on Dec 31, 2008 12:58 PM CST reply actions

refs had nothing to do with it

18 fouls on MSU and 15 on Minn

Michigan State played great defense, as our offense struggled all day. And they killed us on the boards we won’t win many games if we get outrebounded by 15+.

Just Couldnt Make Tournovers today

If you look at the Louisville win..we won because we were able to create Turnovers…Just couldnt do that today.

well

it is a long season and if that is the worst we play things will still be OK

Agreed

Hopefully Tubby and the Boys can Rebound and beat Ohio State come Saturday…Ohio State is Beatable..especially now that Freshman Guard Anthony Crater Left the School and that Lauderdale…a Big Leader on their squad is out for the year.

Yup -- Rebounding killed us

That and the fact that the Gophers seemed to come out flat for the second half. I thought with the first half comeback, they would be ball hawking it all over the court and off the glass. Alas, that was not meant to be.

proof that halftime momentum is meaningless

didn’t Louisville end the half on a short run capped off by a dunk at the buzzer?

Ugh

Terrible second half. A lot of the problems tend to come from some of our lesser bench players. I cringe every time Joseph or Fatty Williams come on the court. They rarely make plays and their only contributions tend to be mistakes. Johnathan Williams is way outgunned in the Big Ten, he needs to spend some time in the weight room and on a treadmill.

The worst part of the loss is that we lost simply because we were out hustled. Mich. St. was always first to the floor for a loose ball, we had a hard time getting out to the perimeter to put a hand in their face even though they clearly could shoot, and not to mention we gave up 23 offensive rebounds.

I also failed to mention all the easy buckets we gave up in the paint.
