In the end, everything that had to happen for the Gophers to head south for a bowl did happen.
Oregon beat Oregon State last week and Southern Cal beat UCLA on Saturday, locking up the Pac-10's Rose Bowl berth for the Trojans, who will play Big Ten champion Penn State. Sunday, the Fiesta Bowl offered an at-large bid to Ohio State, leaving five bowl-eligible Big Ten teams.
That means the Gophers (7-5) will travel to Tempe, Ariz., to play Kansas (7-5) in the Insight Bowl on at 5 p.m. on New Year's Eve.
