Welcome to The Daily Gopher

This Web site has been a long time in coming, but the day has finally arrived where we can bring Minnesota Golden Gophers fans a fully-equipped Internet home to cheer, pontificate, question, praise and shed tears about the best Big Ten institution. And we even plan (read: hope) to do some original reporting here as well.

The Daily Gopher is a venture that aims to combine the blogging powers of two year-plus old Minnesota Gophers sites: Gopher Nation and Paging Jim Shikenjanski. For months, both of us wanted to team up and we were searching for the right location, the right platform and the right look. Eventually we teamed up with the bloggers from SBN because they provide everything on their sites that we wanted, including the ability for increased fan interaction (see right sidebar).

Both PJS and Gopher Nation were created out of a desire to fill a void in the Minneapolis/St. Paul media. Gophers sports are put on the back-burner, while professional team coverage dominates the local mainstream media. As a former journalist myself, I hope to bring a journalistic attitude to The Daily Gopher, and both of us intend to provide thoughtful analysis and comprehensive coverage of all things maroon and gold.

As we begin this new venture, expect to see some small tweaks here and there until we get this site to be everything we want it to be. If something is missing you'd like to see, please drop us a line. And please register on the site so we can make sure The Daily Gopher is a place for interesting and respectful dialogue.

We're excited to be here, and we're looking forward to providing your daily fix for Gophers sports.

2032

Thanks, Paragon SC, I look forward to some cross-blog pontification when the Gophers next make the Rose Bowl in 2032.

It's about time.

I’ve been clicking over to tDG.com three times a day, waiting for the site to go live. :-)

We've been here waiting ...

... but the corporate media world takes time :-) (Jon, I’m assuming you saw From the Barn’s amusing take on our merger!)

I did.

And I for one am shocked, yes shocked, at the communist vision here at tDG. :-)

welcome guys

i’m already making plans for Cal’s trip to Minneapolis in ‘09. i hear the new stadium will be quite nice.

So, basically, you gotta Go Bears!

welcome to SB Nation!

I was just in Minneapolis a week ago, the new stadium looks beautiful so far and the 8th avenue bridge is coming along nicely. Finally, you won’t have to play in the Metrodome by ‘09!

Best of luck with your site. See you at the Maroon and Gold convention in October.

P.S. I love your logo, very Superman-esque.

new stadium will be amazing

thanks Cal and ASU guys. We are excited for TDG to get going but it pales in comparison to the excitement for the new stadium. Looking forward to beating up some bears in 2009!

Good to see another Big 10 blog come into the fold here. Welcome.

Welcome to SBN

I told Peter months ago that you guys should be his first choice if he was looking to bring in a Gopher blog. I’m glad to see the Big Ten getting filled out.

Too bad we don’t play each other this year. I guess the Victory Bell will have to live in Happy Valley a few more years.

What problem are you having?

Jon, the RSS feeds for this site seem okay to me – what are you experiencing? If you like, submit a request to bugreport at sbnation dotcom.

As soon as I open my trap, the RSS feeds work fine. I swear, three hours ago they didn’t work.

Horse sold!

Yep, everything’s fine. This proves that we never make mistakes, ever!

If your mystery problem returns, don’t hesitate to drop us a bug report.
