Blog Poll v2.1
Week Two of the Blog Poll. It is always nice to get a week in so this isn't a complete game of pin the tail on the BCS Championship game (ass reference should be inferred and was deliberate).
Nothing drastic changed. Alabama moved way up after pounding Clemson on the road. And obviously Clemson dropped. There was some other minor tweaking but don't take offense as I'm just trying to get comfortable with my six through 25 spots.
New to my poll was Utah for their win @ Michigan and UCLA for their upset of Tennessee.

Top 25
Hey DG, Where is BYU on your list? They have won the MWC the last two years and certainly deserve a spot before that other school up north coming in at #25.
eh
I’m not basing it on the last couple years. Utah went on the road and beat a BCS team with a very good defense. I’m not sold on either of them, but it was a nice win by Utah. BYU is on my radar buy 27-17 through 3 quarters against UNI isn’t inspiring.
Will look at them more closely but I’m giving some love to the Utes.
what you say here can, and will, be used against you
Looks like your radar needs some fine tuning
The only reason UNI was even within shouting distance of BYU was due to a couple of turnovers turned into scores. Either you have little respect for the MWC or you have some bias against BYU (I’ll assume the former). In either case, I will be back later to tout the Cougars (My 2nd fave after the Gophers) as they continue to climb the USA Today and AP Polls. Maybe once they beat UCLA you will give them some love.
nothing against BYU or MWC
but citing turnovers as a good reason the game was modestly close through three is also not inspiring me. And secondly as the climb the AP / USA Today polls that also means very little (almost as little as the Blog Poll). Hawaii climbed the polls last year and was annihilated in a BCS game.
I won’t deny a bias towards BCS teams and non-BCS teams have more to prove. BYU may be good and the next few games will tell us much more. But for now I can’t put them in my top 25.

Top 3
My top three would be USC, OU, then UGA. Wisconsin didn’t really impress so I’d move them down to 20, moving UCLA a bit higher as well.
USC
While I’m definitely not a USC fan, I’d have to have them higher than number 4. Out of your top five they’re the only team that played a BSC Conference school(Virginia), and they annihilated them. Granted, UVA isn’t a top 25 team, but they could easily beat Chattanooga, Youngstown State, and Georgia Southern. I’m not saying they should be number 1, but at least number 2. I would have to say you probably got it right with Oklahoma at 1.
Also, Tennessee may be 23 right now, but if they played the SEC portion of their schedule like they did last night, they won’t even be able to sniff the top 25.
excellent points all around
On my top 5, I honestly did not see any of them play. So based on where I previously thought they should be I really didn’t plan to alter unless something jumped out like a close game to an FCS team or something.
Michigan may really struggle this year but their defense is rather good. My Utah love was more based on being able to move the ball (at least for a half) against the Mich D. Flimsy? Maybe, but they are only at 25 and winning @Michigan still says more to me than beating UNI at home.
Tennessee – you may be absolutely correct but I’m choosing to not base my poll on where I project teams to be. They lost on the road to a a good Pac 10 team. I’m not writing them off just yet, I think today they’d beat Florida State or Utah.
Thanks for the thoughts, it helps me to think through my selections more carefully. Keep ’em coming.
