Kevin Payton suspended

I don't know who originally reported it but ESPN has the following on the suspension of Kevin Payton for academic reasons.

MINNEAPOLIS -- Minnesota backup point guard Kevin Payton has been suspended for academic reasons.

Coach Tubby Smith says the suspension is indefinite. The redshirt junior has appeared in only eight of the team's 18 games this season.

The Gophers (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) return to action on Thursday night against No. 18 Purdue. Smith says the team also could be without senior center Jon Williams, who suffered a calf injury in practice this week.

Not much needs to be said, academic reasons are academic reasons.  If anybody was wondering where that extra scholarship is going to come from next year, I'm going to take a wild guess that Payton will not be receiving a scholarship in 2009-2010.
