Game Thread: Minnesota at Iowa

Minnesota Golden Gophers at Iowa Hawkeyes, Jan 8, 2009 6:05 PM CST

The first Big Ten road game (and amazingly just second road game of the season) is here in the form of a trip to Iowa.

Game is scheduled for 6 p.m. central time for a tip on ESPN 2.

I'll be looking for the Gophers to push tempo. If we're turning the Hawkeyes over, scoring in transition and playing up-tempo ball, this will be a happy night for Minnesota fans. But don't expect it to be easy, even if Iowa is a lesser-caliber Big Ten team. Big Ten road games are never easy.

See you in the comments section below.

Go Gophers!!!

Okay, I’m finally leaving work to go watch the game.

Jason Kubel

I anxiously await the Jason Kubel reference contest, in which the winner will compare a Gopher to Jason Kubel, and the winner gets shwag of some sort. PJS is of course disqualified to make it fair.

Oh, come on now.

I have a good Jason Kubel reference ready to go.

Nevermind.

Now it’s basically a 5 in 5 out. JAS, Devoe, Carter, Williams, and Devron.

JAS

needs to sit down he is worthless

by duckman86 on Jan 8, 2009 6:16 PM CST reply actions

Horrible offense with this 5.

We got the ball in the post and JAS was strangely right next to the post player.

Busch provides intensity

I don’t have a probelm with him being in there now

by rencito on Jan 8, 2009 6:30 PM CST up reply actions

Personally I'd rather we had a good player in there instead

Intensity means jack shit if you have no skill at all.

He plays hard

It is infectious. I think people are way too critical of him. He isn’t the best player, but I think against Iowa he has value

32%

How the hell did we shoot that high of a percentage?

by rencito on Jan 8, 2009 6:48 PM CST reply actions

Okay, so it was 29%

Must have misread the ESPN stat…yahoo has 29. That still seems too high. It seemed like 15

by rencito on Jan 8, 2009 6:53 PM CST up reply actions

Good news

1.) After all of that ugliness, we are only down by 6
2.) No one is in foul trouble
3.) Iowa doesn’t look all that good, we just look that bad—easier to improve after halftime

by rencito on Jan 8, 2009 6:55 PM CST reply actions

ESPN

Karl Ravech is ridiculous. Yes, we scored 20 points in the first half. But this is the Big Ten. Some games are in the 40s.

Nolen and, on the last possession Westbrook, haven’t been good.

WHEW!!!!!

What the heck was Minnesota doing that first half. They were so worried about the outside shot by Iowa they were letting them drive off the wings time after time. Then the Gophers couldn’t (wouldn’t) penetrate in the first half even with a HUGE height advantage.
We were damn lucky we won this game!
