Minnesota was within minutes of having John Wooden as its coach years ago. Instead he accepted UCLA's offer because Minnesota's phone lines were frozen. Literally. Although this story has been told before, hearing it again is easily the most depressing sports news of the day. Happy Birthday Coach Wooden.
