two dropped passes

Why did we not rush the ball again?

Three straight incompletions? All we needed was 5 yards to get into FG range.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:12 AM CDT reply actions

I've been up for 26 hours straight..this game has me psyched up

Because I have a bunch of friends who are cocky Ohio State Fans..would love for the gophers to beat them today

by TonyO on Oct 24, 2009 11:14 AM CDT reply actions

The level of stupidity on that opening offensive drive was unbelievable.

(1) Gray got a 25 yard rush. TEAR UP THE SCRIPT. Keep the successful player in the game. Guess what – the spread read worked, keep him in. That’s called coaching.

(2) Punting from the 32? Horsecrap. Throw a jump ball near the end zone. Best case – first down. Worst case – Ohio State downs the ball in the end zone or, exactly where they downed the punt.

Talk about having no confidence in your team. Punting from the 32. That is Gruden or Childress-esque.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:18 AM CDT reply actions

Decker and Green not dropping passes

would have changed that series quite a bit. The plays were good calls and mostly executed.

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 11:19 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree

coaching is not running the same thing you just ran because it worked once. Chances are OSU would have had a different defensive play call on the next play

GN

coaching is exploiting an advantage, not adhering to your script.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:21 AM CDT up reply actions

Ohio State’s LT is absolutely atrocious (HENDERSON taking note I’m sure).

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:19 AM CDT reply actions

BTW an EPIC FAIL from the Pre-Game show

Lee Corso literally said the words “Blew their Wad” on TV

3rd down

once again is killing us. I love that we are forcing 3rd and 10, 3rd and 7 but get a freaking stop

Anyone here agree with the punt call by MN? And if so, how?

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:23 AM CDT reply actions

do not agree

field position battle is kind of overrated imo. had it been less than 10 I’m guessing they would have gone for it.

nice hit

by Campbell.

LBs have played OK thus far

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 11:23 AM CDT reply actions

The linebackers are always good, even though Campbell and Triplett were not recruited by Brewster and therefore he cannot take credit for them.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:24 AM CDT up reply actions

Our LBs are always solid

It is our the rest of our defense I worry about.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:23 AM CDT reply actions

That’s sending a message – Brewster gives up and punts, Tressel goes for it.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:25 AM CDT reply actions

pretty different situations

message was sent but 4th and 1 is different then 4th and 10 outside of the 30

Terrelle Pryor runs a 4.32 40 – LOL.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:25 AM CDT reply actions

I thought Maresh redshirted last year? Maybe he’s playing the scout team this year and will take over for Campbell / Triplett next year – those LBs never leave the field.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions

I think Maresh is redshirting this year

Last year he was out due to his Heart Surgery…

by TonyO on Oct 24, 2009 11:28 AM CDT up reply actions

So, he’ll be a redshirt sophomore next year? Or, did he not enroll until this year?

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:28 AM CDT up reply actions

Not sure...

but you can have a medical redshirt and a regular redshirt in addition, right?

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

indeed

thats how some people end up as 6 year seniors. and he was definitely here last spring

by KCGopher on Oct 24, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

I believe so

but I don’t know what Maresh’s situation is.

a) I just realized the “horse-shoe” isn’t even a horse shoe. Ohio State is dumb

b) somehow I’ve always missed this, can someone tell me what that face of a tattoo is on Lee Campbell’s left arm?

by KCGopher on Oct 24, 2009 11:28 AM CDT reply actions

The horseshoe is a horseshoe, it just has an addition. I think this is what TCF would look like if the addition was buil.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:29 AM CDT up reply actions

Defense

Got lucky but really what gives with this defense. Nothing changes from week to week. Every player on the team that gets to the QB goes high and whiffs every frikken time why cant they control their body. Our D gives up a way to high % of 3rd down and long conversions because of it and its extremely frustrating.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 11:30 AM CDT reply actions

OMG they let MarQueis throw it.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:30 AM CDT reply actions

Dear God – did the announcers just credit Brewster’s staff? What? Based on what evidence?

No way they are doing quick developing plays and its working

hmmm who would of thought. Cant believe it took them that long.

no kidding

we run so many slow developing plays

But that’s better than Dunbar because this is an NFL offense.

Maybe not – those SEC officials who screwed both Georgia and Arkansas against LSU and Florida, respectively, have an open weekend.

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 11:35 AM CDT reply actions

Instant Replay

This is the downfall of instant replay. Officials are afraid to make calls.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:36 AM CDT up reply actions

Maybe it's not.

Maybe they would prefer to let a play finish organically, rather than calling a play dead before a review can confirm the correct call (I’m thinking Hochuli last year).

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:37 AM CDT up reply actions

The ref

is talking to someone at BW3 to see how long the game should go.

anyone happy with this current drive?

best the offense has looked in a long time

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 11:37 AM CDT reply actions

Best offense in two weeks

Cause they are running quick plays and getting set and going unstead of letting the D adjust to everything.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions

GN

this offense has no trouble between the 35s.

It’s everything else that sucks.

But, I like the playcalling. Speed, misdirection, mix of pass and QB keepers. It seems Gray will get more time today.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:38 AM CDT up reply actions

Yes, some nice crisp passes

I don’t like the fact that Decker got hurt though

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:37 AM CDT reply actions

seriously though

he was down, rolled on his back the ball came out. terrible call

This is 2 down territory. Play to win. Impress recruits.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:39 AM CDT reply actions

disagree

this isn’t EA sports. OUtside teh 40 and 5 yards to go, you can’t give OSU that short of a field and a chance to gain confidence. They aren’t playing that well.

stoudamire is right

coach will figure it out later. problem solved

by KCGopher on Oct 24, 2009 11:42 AM CDT reply actions

Well

I like the fire of Stoudermire. At least someone is showing it.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:42 AM CDT reply actions

If Brewster has any control over his team and his players, Stoudermire should sit the rest of the game – or at least til halftime. No player should pull that shit on the sidelines.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:42 AM CDT reply actions

You have no idea what was said

Heat of the moment a player is going to show some fire. I think it depends on what was said.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:43 AM CDT up reply actions

I saw f bombs. That’s enough for me. Going nose to nose with a coach is unacceptable.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:44 AM CDT up reply actions

I saw

the coach get in his face

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions

Wasnt Stoudermires fault

But you have to show discipline and respect for your coaches. That cant be tollerated.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 11:43 AM CDT reply actions

Bullshit

that was the exact same thing that the OSU defender got away with

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 11:46 AM CDT reply actions

he actually got their after the ball instead of before.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 11:50 AM CDT reply actions

Agreed. I think trying Gray on the spread read for a couple plays in a row, in order to try and exploit the D at the edge, is worth doing a couple more times.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Pryor’s HS coach is right – this is not the offense he should have picked to display his unique combination of skills.

Oregon, Penn State or Michigan would have been a much better choice by Pryor. He looks completely lost.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:50 AM CDT reply actions

Can you imagine him in Rich Rods offense

the reason he want to stay away from the spread is its not favored by NFL teams and he wanted to play in an offense that would improve his ability to play in the NFL and his draft status.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 11:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Right

Drew Brees looks terrible in the NFL.

And at this point, would you rather draft Terrelle Pryor in 2011 or Tate Forcier in 2012?

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:52 AM CDT up reply actions

So far

it is the botched fumble call, the phantom interference call, and the bad pass interference call.

Then he took your top 3 for Henderson as gospel.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 11:55 AM CDT up reply actions

Regarding Henderson

I’ve read he’s got about 4 factions controlling his recruitment. Get this – Michigan sent him a ticket for this weekend (I’ve yet to see if he’s there), and one of his handlers actually called Michigan and said, thanks, we’ll be there, but as a visitor for Penn State. Unreal.

He’s going to USC, MN or Ohio State.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 11:53 AM CDT reply actions

Oh the memories.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 12:11 PM CDT reply actions

To be consistent, shouldn’t the call have been fumble and MN recovery, and then review?

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 12:11 PM CDT reply actions

Can I blame that decision on Brewster?

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 12:13 PM CDT reply actions

Who cares

You get one challenge a half. They review anything questionable automatically anyways. They should just do away with the stupid challenges. Challenges are the worst rule ever. The NFL needs to adopt the college replay system.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 12:18 PM CDT reply actions

My goodness, Pryor is just terrible in this offense.

Honestly, I’m really happy this guy is Ohio State’s QB this year. The Buckeye offense is just ridiculous.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 12:19 PM CDT reply actions

And yet...

people are saying we should be playing Gray. It would be the exact same thing.

by rencito on Oct 24, 2009 12:20 PM CDT up reply actions

You might be right.

Question though: who is quicker, Gray or Pryor? I cannot tell.

Pryor needs the Vince Young offense I talked about on Tuesday – here’s a wideout, if he’s covered, run.

The only thing i can think of

Is they have been recruiting OLine hard the last 2 years and are waiting for these guys to play before they play Gray to much. They are using Weber as the punching bag with this Oline so Gray doesnt get hurt and are waiting to sign that back that will help him out. Too bad Calvin Phillips isnt a senior though cuz it doesnt look like we will get Williams we lost the two best backs we had a chance at to Oregon.

by Jeffdu on Oct 24, 2009 12:51 PM CDT up reply actions

So, in 2011, who does the fanbase here think will be the best QB on his team?

Kevin Newsome at Penn State
Tate Forcier at Michigan
Terrelle Pryor at Ohio State
MarQueis Gray at Minnesota
Robert Marve at Purdue

I vote for Marve. Joey Elliott is the best QB in the conference right now, statistically, under a FIRST YEAR COACH. Marve will be very good.

by GopherNation on Oct 24, 2009 1:07 PM CDT reply actions

You are missing the point

Weber is a 3rd year starter and has never improved actually he regresses as the year goes on every year. Gray is our QB of the future give him a chance. We have allready proved we cant score with Weber so who cares if we cant score with Gray we dont even know if we can or not cause the coaches havnt played him enough yet.

Anyone here who thinks that Brewster would subvert his team by not playing the best QB is just not being rational.

Despite others here, I do not think Brewster has a blank cheque to develop the team, which was proven by his coordinator switches last year. He needs to win. He thinks Weber can do it.

by JG2112 on Oct 24, 2009 1:12 PM CDT reply actions

exactly

if Gray gave his team a better chance to win, he would be in there.

This isn’t EA Sports, Brewster isn’t going to bench his upper-classmen, play his freshmen, give up on this year so he can win later.

He’s not playing well. NO ONE on offense is, and without Decker on the field the offense is useless.

Or if they're down 28 points approaching the 4th quarter...

Regardless, they have never run a hurry-up in the last two years. Three possible reasons:
1) coaching philosophy believes the risk isn’t worth the reward
2) bad coaching
3) Weber needs time to think through the plays and can’t handle a hurry-up

All I ever ask for out of the teams that I support is competence, not beating yourself with a million turnovers, not getting outcoached every flipping week, having the ability to adapt (or adopt according to Griese) based on what is happening in the game.

What recruit watches a game like this and says, “geez, this brewster guy who came into my home and sold me all this bluster really knows how to coach?”

And I don’t want to hear anything about talent deficiencies, transitions, or anything. Danny Hope needed 6 weeks for a solid upset, look at what Paul Johnson did last year, look at what Steve Sarkisian did in week 3.

EIther you can coach, or you can’t. I don’t know why anyone here thinks Brewster will get better and if you don’t, get rid of him. The problems in year one when there was no talent just look even worse where there is talent.

Get Brian Kelly, Bronco Mendenhall, or Gary Patterson on speed dial, and write a blank cheque.

They worst part about it is OSU and PSU arnt really even that good this year. Im mean for christ sake the buckeyes lost to purdue last week. Point being is the guys Brewster really needed to get to prove his legitamicy he wont get. This team will never have enough talent to overcome the weakness of our coaching. Coaches are more important then players in college football and teams like Utah and Boise prove it every year. Can Brewster now try to get a guy with a proven record and throw the rest of 09 away for a chance at a quick turn around in 10.
