Many of you may not care one bit about the NBA and we all know the Timberwolves are going to be terrible. But the boys over at Canis Hoopus scored a MAJOR coup by getting Britt Robson to be doing some writing for them. Britt is very well respected and knows his basketball. All of this to say, he wrote a great season preview for CanisHoopus yesterday and it is worth a read. Oh and the Wolves outscored the Nets 31-15 in the 4th quarter and are 1-0!
Back to our regularly scheduled programming...
- Donnie Puck provides a defense of Tim Brewster. It is interesting to me how so many have gone off the edge after the last two weeks. They were ugly losses, there is plenty of room for criticism but this is a decent defense of keeping him around a little longer.
- Ultimately it doesn't matter what most of us think. If there are any major donors to the U's athletic department reading this, you may have a say in this. But Maturi appears to be a patient man.
- I find this list rather interesting. It is the circulation numbers of top 25 newspapers in the country. The Star Tribune has the 14th highest circulation in the country, ahead of papers like the Chicago Sun-Times, The Boston Globe, The Detroit Free Press and The San Francisco Chronicle.
- Rush the Court lists the Gopher/Purdue basketball game as one of the top 65 games of the upcoming season. I'm looking forward to the Butler game and the Michigan State games ahead of that one but it will be a lot of fun as well.
- Gary Parish has a feature on Butler. This is a very good team who, like the Gophers, return everybody from last year's NCAA Tournament team.

Brewster Article
Half of the people that post on the Star Tribune are Wisconsin and Iowa trolls. They never have anything good to say about Brewster or the Gophers ever.
I think there is a lot more discontent now that we have seen a glimpse of the future (Gray) and we know Weber will not be able to do anything without Decker on the field. We have lost “hope” and need to see a lot more of what the future holds.
We have upgraded the schedule and that is great, but we still have yet to beat a team that we weren’t supposed to beat. Our biggest win is Illinois last year and wasn’t spectacular in hindsight. The worst part is that we don’t even belong on the same field with Penn State, OSU, and likely another blowout at Iowa. It’s very frustrating right now in Gopher Nation.
Donnie Puck says
“I remain a huge Mason supporter, and I believe if he were still the Gophers’ coach, the team would be in far better shape than the current lot.” Sorry, but I for one am glad Mason is long gone. Brewster has 16 games left in my mind before the verdict is in, but he was worth the gamble. Must admit it pains me to think what might have been if Patterson (TCU coach) had taken the job.
The Strib May be the 14th largest newspaper, but...
They hardly ever follow the guidelines set by the Fake AP Stylebook:
“Never use phrases that are insulting to dead fish, parakeets or puppies, as they are your primary audience.”
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.
