Michigan State comes to Minnesota - OFFICIAL GAME THREAD

Michigan St. Spartans at Minnesota Golden Gophers, Oct 31, 2009 7:00 PM CDT

The most recent biggest game of the year.  Michigan State and Minnesota will conceivably be fighting for similar bowl destinations and this game may be rather significant when all is said and done.  Unfortunately the Gophers have been playing their worst football of the year and Eric Decker is no longer going to be available to the struggling offense.  Will the offense continue to struggle, putting the defense on the field for far too many plays?  Or will adjustments be made and we'll see them move the ball for the first time in weeks?

Here We Go!

Lets make this a house of horror for Sparty. Go Gophers and please please please play Gray!

So glad that wasn't reviewed

…because I’m not sure he didn’t step out and I’m not sure we could have scored from the 30.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:07 PM CDT reply actions

I said that before...

…they told us about the holding call. That was NOT the perfect play for 2nd and 20. For third and 5 it would have been.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:10 PM CDT reply actions

This is exactly what we needed

to set the tempo for the rest of the game.

14-0 and their offense hasn’t even seen the field yet.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:12 PM CDT reply actions

Cliche

Tricks for MSU and treats for UM.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:13 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah

when is the last time we said that?

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:15 PM CDT up reply actions

Also

the RB did a nice job of helping out…didn’t see who was in on that play.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:16 PM CDT up reply actions

Weber

2/3 for Weber, 99 yds and 2 TDs.

Both of those passes were on the money, too, although Bennett was wide open.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:14 PM CDT reply actions

YAAAAAAY

MSU gift wrapping this one for us so far.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:26 PM CDT reply actions

Decker like dimension??

What the hell is he talking about?

Gray looked as bad on Weber on that one. Not even close.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:29 PM CDT reply actions

We suck

at screen passes. Seriously awful.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:33 PM CDT reply actions

I say that

and then they get a 10 yard gain on a pass. Stupid.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:35 PM CDT reply actions

Nice tackle by Sherels

I still wish they would use their arms, though!

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:42 PM CDT reply actions

We need more points, or at least a few first downs

We cannot afford to let the momentum shift back to them. Our defense needs a breather.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:43 PM CDT reply actions

Meh

Stoudermire needs to just be happy with getting out to the 35…don’t try to be a hero.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:44 PM CDT reply actions

Not a good start to the drive

On pace for about 100 yards of penalties here.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:45 PM CDT reply actions

Weber is

Jeckyll and Hyde. There he looked really good looking of his receivers and finding the open guy.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:50 PM CDT reply actions

MSU

Knows that 80% of the time Gray gets the ball he is running up the middle. Do something different!

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:50 PM CDT reply actions

That was better by Whaley

Hit the hole harder that time and got a decent gain.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:51 PM CDT reply actions

Wow

Hoese almost dropped that. Whew. Glad he hung on. That could have been big if we had to punt right there.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:52 PM CDT reply actions

Should have been caught

but that was behind the receiver. Our QBs need to work on throwing the football through the old tire.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 7:55 PM CDT reply actions

OMG Stoudermire

He usually gets those, but that one REALLY hurts. That was 6.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 8:07 PM CDT reply actions

Actually

Stoudermire took a bad route to the ball on that one.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 8:23 PM CDT reply actions

Brewster needs to move on

from that call. Just score on the next play instead of arguing with the official.

by rencito on Oct 31, 2009 8:24 PM CDT reply actions

Thanks guys

first game I have missed on TV this year and it is killing me. Appreciate the commentary—-keep it comin’!

Nice coaching....

penalties, late hits, cheap shots….Brewster never pulls a player aside to teach or reprimand him either….he’s got the look Monson had as Gophers coach. The game seems bigger than him….needs to keep recruiting, and surround himself with coaches who can coach during the game. This is embarrassing.

by jimipig on Oct 31, 2009 9:15 PM CDT reply actions

How about the # of late hits/personal fouls on Lawrence this season? Love his passion, but his game sense is horrible.

by jimipig on Oct 31, 2009 9:19 PM CDT reply actions

That’s why I’m thinking let Brewster be buddies with the players and recruit, let his coaches, who are better X’s and O’s guys than him, deal with the “hard stuff”.

Loving watching USC lose. Loved watching Illinois do something special today. Waiting for Minnesota to do something unexpected this season. I guess Purdue was that game…I should have enjoyed it more than I did.

by jimipig on Oct 31, 2009 9:22 PM CDT reply actions

Agreed…we had more than a minute, and 70 yards. Give it a shot. 11 points and we sit and head into the locker room…knowing we kick off to start the 2nd half?

turns down a penalty of delay of game to give the kicker a better angle. MSU kicker makes it anyway.
