I hope they have substantial evidence regarding the laptop theft, if this is true. Although, one of the stipulations of him coming here was him keeping out of trouble, and the whole Macy’s incident really didn’t do anything to help his case.

If this is true, I don’t blame Tubby/Maturi, and I’m glad they decided to do something about it.

The criticism I do have of Tubby/Maturi is a lack of transparency in the handling of Royce and Devron Bostick. One of the local rags wrote about reporters receiving the “Tubby stare,” during a question and answer session about Royce. Tubby doesn’t have to like the questions but he does need to answer them.

I don’t know if expelling Royce will happen or is right or wrong. But I know I’m extremely disappointed.

No he doesn't

Totally disagree. Tubby does not have to answer any questions about players’ personal matters and discipline. Those are internal matters and he understands their right to privacy. He doesn’t need to be transparent at all.

The fact that

he has been upfront that they did something wrong and won’t play until they serve their penance or it is resolved is all I need to know. Would I like to know more…absolutely. But I don’t need it.

questions have to be asked

Reporters have every right to ask these questions. This is. a publicly funded university an the public can seek answers. I agree that tubby doesn’t have to answer these questions but he should expect the questions especially when one player is suspended and no one knows why.

Do we have the right to know....

about every single student that is on a scholarship then? Or at least do we have the right to know when someone on a tax payer funded, public funded scholarship gets a misdemeanor arrest? There has to be a line, Tubby is the coach and Royce is not convicted of anything yet. Let him make his decision about the basketball court after the legal courts do their thing.

If not then I want the same reporters and U of M fans to demand a list of all students on scholarship and track their names in the police blotters and arrest records. Then we can ask them about what happened and what they are doing leaching off the tax payers…because a comment like that implies just that….your scholarship is publicly funded thus your life is an open book right?!

That begs the question then

For sports teams that net positive dollars to the university and therefore are implicitly funded through private donations have different rules than those that lose money and are a net drain on the university (therefore the pubilic assistance)?

I agree that questions can be asked. It is our constitutional right. However, the players and constitutional rights also include protecting their privacy. This has been a tricky issue for a long time and will continue to be. Back to my previous point, as long as they are upfront on the basics (player did something stupid…now suspended until resolved, etc) that’s fine with me.

That’s good news. I’m still hopeful he’ll be productive for us at some point this year.

It's only a matter of time...

I can’t remember any of the details due to the fact that I was doing some post game drinking on Saturday in may tailgate lot, but a guy who told me he had an inside source said that Royce would be expelled shortly.

Some foggy details:
He’s been kicked out of multiple dorms already this year.
Tubby has been placing calls to AAU and other organizations for some reason or another.

That just hurts

our frontcourt is fine before the big ten season starts, but we could really use that depth. If true, he missed a big opportunity to showcase his skills. NBA teams are very reluctant right now to draft problem guys. You only get so long to prove that you aren’t that guy. Until one day you are and will always be in their eyes.
