OFFICIAL GAME THREAD - Gophers @ Hawkeyes

Minnesota Golden Gophers at Iowa Hawkeyes, Nov 21, 2009 11:02 AM CST

I see three questions we need answered in a big way today.

  1. Can the Gophers and Tim Brewster win a game they aren't supposed to?  It hasn't happened yet but this would be the game that goes to the top of Brewster's resume.
  2. Can we get some yards and  points out of our offense?  This is all on the shoulders and arm of Adam Weber.  Wake up the echos of the Michigan State game or it will be a long day.
  3. Can the defense avoid giving up the big play?  Force third downs and then force the punt.  Iowa's freshman QB may make some mistakes but we can't give him confidence by hitting a couple home runs.

yes + yes + yes = WIN

Do not go for it

FYI

The # 1 defense in the ACC, # 10 in the nation…North Carolina. Their defensive coordinator? Everitt Withers.

This is the ugliest

most inept, worst offense in all of CFB. Unbelievable that this is the last game. I haven’t seen one ounce of improvement this season. Come on defense, it is completely up to you.

they

have to figure out how to get Gray to the outside…..

now snap fumbled when the Gophers looked like they were going to score. good lord.

Just wondering...

why do we even bother putting Gray in if all he is going to do is run up the middle. EVERYONE knows that is what the play call is when he is in the game.

I hope

the fact that he has his helmet off now means he is benched

there

was a pick six that was dropped…… damn

We could win

If we didnt have a 6 2 200 lb turd taking snaps.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 11:56 AM CST reply actions

I was going to say

This team looks awful at first but really so far this game its just weber. Hes had time to throw the wrs have been making the catches the d looks good and is playing insipired and the special teams has been good. Along with the play calling hasnt been that bad either. I mean really back to back fumbles wtf.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 11:58 AM CST reply actions

Nice play Sherels

Our defense has been so much better this year than they are given credit for. No thanks to the shitty offense.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 11:59 AM CST reply actions

Ok that was a drop

But Weber still cost us a min of 6 pts on fgs with fumbles

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 11:59 AM CST reply actions

Wow weber nice throw there

I love the fumbles and int groundings and the sacks after 10 secs to throw the ball away.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:00 PM CST reply actions

The rest of the team stops playing inspired

and starts making mistakes after playing so hard and pretty well only to have thier qb disappoint them again. So now we start getting drops and bad kicks.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:02 PM CST reply actions

No mor excuses

It’s not the line, it’s not the receivers, its not Fisch, Weber can’t throw straight or figure things out.

Buck Bravo

by Buck Bravo on Nov 21, 2009 12:03 PM CST reply actions

Ouch

why not just let gray throw the ball as a qb so he can account for the defenders

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:08 PM CST reply actions

nice hits on the RBs

by collado this game. Im liking Tinsley too he seems to have the speed to get around the blocks and make the plays behind the line of scrimage that Tripplett wasnt making.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:09 PM CST reply actions

The offense tried to lose last week

Against Iowa it will be easier for them.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:10 PM CST reply actions

If i was on the D

I would kick weber and fischs ass in the locker room

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:15 PM CST reply actions

It's too bad,

because the defense is eventually going to wear down.

Buck Bravo

by Buck Bravo on Nov 21, 2009 12:17 PM CST reply actions

The bottom line

is that this team doesn’t have a single guy who can play QB. Gray probably is far too raw and inexperienced, Weber is the worst QB in the Big Ten, Alipate needs to keep his redshirt, and Clint Brewster transferred away.

Buck Bravo

by Buck Bravo on Nov 21, 2009 12:22 PM CST reply actions

The thing we've been ignoring about Gray

is all of the turnovers. He has fumbled at least 4 times I can recall, and then the brutal pick today. I think he can be good but we need to simplify the offense.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 12:25 PM CST reply actions

This offense

is a total embarrassment. It hasn’t shown one ounce of improvement. The defense has been busting their asses all year and gotten zero support.

by Texas Gopher on Nov 21, 2009 12:25 PM CST reply actions

DAmmiittt

the offense, including the punt, 4 F’ing plays, took 19 seconds off the clock. Youve got a whole half and this is what you come out with??? 19 SEConds Including the punt!!! pathetic.

by Texas Gopher on Nov 21, 2009 12:49 PM CST reply actions

yeah i bet he could play WR

it would be hard to cover a guy that tall that can jump just throw it up. Can he take a hit though lol.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:52 PM CST up reply actions

I like this idea, let's get all the hoops guys involved.

LWest – RB, Nolen, CB, Sampson- TE, etc…

We all know Mbakwe and White would be good on D… I won’t even go for the many cheap shots available.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 12:54 PM CST up reply actions

Collado can really hit

for a little guy maybe he should be the smallest outside LB in history cus he cant really cover.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:50 PM CST reply actions

I've never liked Brewster, but have tried to refrain from calling for him to be fired ....

… But I’ll gladly support Maturi if he decides to show Brewster the door.

Maroon and Gold Headquarters: The Daily Gopher

by PJS on Nov 21, 2009 12:52 PM CST reply actions

Let's see if

the offense can take more than 19 stinkin’ seconds off the clock. Come on Fisch—-

by Texas Gopher on Nov 21, 2009 12:52 PM CST reply actions

No way Brewster throws away his

last year as a football coach at this lever with Weber next year right?

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 12:56 PM CST reply actions

Brewster's biggest fault is sticking with Weber. ANYTHING would be better.

If not Gray why not try Pittman? Try Stoudermire (High School QB)? Try Adam Lueck (practice QB)?

Buck Bravo

by Buck Bravo on Nov 21, 2009 12:57 PM CST reply actions

I dunno

I haven’t been happy with some of Fisch’s game plans. Particularly the 1st half against Illinois. Coming out to throw against the worst run D in the BT.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 12:59 PM CST up reply actions

The definition of insanity

Trying the same thing over and over expecting different results. This goes to Brewster sticking with Weber and all the Weber supporters on this site.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:00 PM CST reply actions

I agree...

but to me it doesn’t seem like Gray is the answer either.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:02 PM CST up reply actions

Oh shoot

I just realized my 360 feed was behind by like 1 min… ha!

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:03 PM CST up reply actions

Weber definitely has a lot of blame on his shoulders

…and I do believe Gray should be playing right now.

But our whole offense is bad. O-line can’t open up running lanes. QB sucks. Receivers are dropping balls when they are thrown on target. Then receivers run into each other to break up the play and injure themselves.

QB is far from the only problem.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:03 PM CST reply actions

Im not saying they are good

and I dont care whats not his fault. I care about the pick 6s, the sacks when he could throw away the fumbles the lack of being able to adjust and the stupid intentional groundings. Overall we are worse with him at qb then we would be with our offense never seeing the field. Look at the last 3 weeks now our o has scored more for the other team then they have for us huh does that even make sense.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:06 PM CST up reply actions

How many times...

has Weber thrown a pick 6 this year?

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:03 PM CST reply actions

This offense is so embarrasing

From the playcalling to the offensive execution, to the personnel, to the penalties… Very tough to watch.

by toft32 on Nov 21, 2009 1:05 PM CST reply actions

As awful as that 2007 team was...

they managed to make it a game in Iowa. 21-16 loss.

Some guy named Erik Decker scored the last TD against Iowa.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:09 PM CST reply actions

Which would you rather watch

This inept offense, or the sweet offense and the defensive meltdown of the Mason era?

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:09 PM CST reply actions

Bring Mason back to coach the o

call the plays and recruit the RBs and Oline. Have Brewster Recruit the D and coach it with Cosgrove. This D with the Mason ball control pound the rock O = Gtech type success.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:12 PM CST up reply actions

At least there was a reason

to watch Mason’s teams. Hell, even Wacker’s teams could score.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:11 PM CST reply actions

We are in for another season of Shit next year if Weber is QB

He relied too heavily on Decker…and Decker is gone next year

by TonyO on Nov 21, 2009 1:13 PM CST reply actions

It seems like

every time WHaley runs he is absolutely crushed at the end of the run.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:16 PM CST reply actions

Leave him in Fujck

its better to run the play every frikken time then anything theyve done for that last 6 weeks.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:19 PM CST reply actions

It wasn't so much that

it was given the way the D was lined up. I would rather try to run it than have Weber throw an incompletion, INT, or take a sack. Which has been the outcome 80% of the time the last 3 weeks.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:21 PM CST reply actions

that is atleast the 4th time

they havent got the play in in time this game. This staff is a joke. He comes a Gray sneak you know its going to get stuffed this time.

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:21 PM CST reply actions

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCKIN

RETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARDSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

by Jeffdu on Nov 21, 2009 1:21 PM CST reply actions

Now that was stupid

Running the EXACT same play. What the hell???

Heads need to roll. Any of us could coach better than this.

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:22 PM CST reply actions

I am sorry guys

but this is just fuckin’ ridiculous. I cannnot stand this much longer.

by Texas Gopher on Nov 21, 2009 1:22 PM CST reply actions

Brewster probably thought he was really smart on the sidelines ...

… thinking, “Hey, they won’t think we’re stupid enough to run into the heart of their defense with our fullback two straightt times.” Idiot.

Maroon and Gold Headquarters: The Daily Gopher

by PJS on Nov 21, 2009 1:22 PM CST reply actions

I can't out smart 'em

Maybe I can out stupid ’em!!

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

So...

you are basically saying Brewster out-dumbed himself?

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:23 PM CST up reply actions

The o-line and RBs have a lot to do with it too

But at least we are seeing different players out there

by rencito on Nov 21, 2009 1:24 PM CST reply actions

131 for Minnesota 141 for Iowa wow.

problem is when your offense looks so bad they wont give you the benifit of the doubt on plays like that.

throw a slant if you are going to throw the ball to stoud.

Terrifying stat

We had 40 TDs in the 2007 season… We have 27 so far this season.

by eazydp on Nov 21, 2009 1:47 PM CST reply actions

Our Offensive stats look

like our defensive stats from 07. Talk about a flip for Brewster. He will be the only coach in history to have the worst defense in the country and worst offense in the country in a 3 year period.
