Kip Smith walks
Rivals shows that Kip Smith a highly recruited kicker has bailed on Brewster and is now committed to UCLA.....nice going Brew. Why would he come to MN....to ride the pine and come in to kick once every three games ....gotta give the incumbent kicker the chances...after all, he gives us the best chance to win. Good for him....smart choice....no reason to flounder on this team and freeze your ass off. You can at least flounder with UCLA, play and get a tan.

If this starts a trend...
Then it is definitely time to fire Brewster now… The only hope he gives us is recruiting talent, and if the recruits are bailing on him there’s nothing left.
I shouldn’t over-react on an “idiot kicker” (Peyton Manning quote) but considering the offense we had, a kicker may be sorely needed.
Kickers can be the difference between being 4-8 and 8-4. Dismiss them at your leisure.
Eric Ellestad was the team’s leading scorer this year with 63 points, 15 more than Duane Bennett. Had he missed an extra point against Syracuse, Minny would have lost. And how about SDSU’s FG kicker missing 2 FGs – had those been made, well, you know.
So, taking kickers for granted is not a good approach.
agreed...
especially with a poor offense that can’t convert. Kickers are clutch for winning games and keeping defenses honest. If the opposing D knew you kicker sucked, then they would know that you aren’t just trying to get field position to kick and can cheat when they know you have to go for it.

I'm not too worried
This stuff happens all the time (recruits reneging). Brewster has stolen a few himself.
If we fire Brewster now, it will only get exponentially worse.
Firing Brewster now isn't the answer
Give it another couple years…offensive/defensive coordinators have to stand still for consecutive seasons. If he blows through more of them, then fire him, because there’s a bigger problem….but for now, let things settle.
