Around SBN: Off Tackle Empire interviews Rich Rodriguez

Instead of Nugz today, you're going to get Morsels.

The #3 kicker in the country, Kip Smith, has de-committed from Brewster's 2010 class and committed to UCLA.

I can't blame a kicker for wanting to kick where it's warm, and who wouldn't want to live in LA for five years?

I didn’t like the idea of using a schollie on a punter. Field goal kicker, maybe. Get a local kid with a decent leg to walk on, or find a scholarship soccer player who rides the bench but has a strong leg. Better yet, approach the Rugby team for a punter: great hands and directional kicking, no more shanks.

Buck

this kid was a FG kicker.

He made a 67-yard field goal this year in HS action.

Bad kicking teams are not good teams. Ohio State won a national title with good kickers, good defense and Maurice Clarett. I fully advocate having 1 scholarship punter and 1 scholarship kicker on the roster – it shows a commitment to good special teams play.

my mistake

A great FG kicker is a definite loss. I do like the idea of using a Rugby player for a punter: great hands, kicking through approaching traffic, directional kicking, great tackler.

Wow. Just like that?

Apparently a man’s word doesn’t mean much nowadays…

"If we got to we're going to crawl in this locker room. And on our back is going to be an axe..."

If you're looking for honor and honesty

the last place to look is college recruiting.

Michael Carter? De-committed from West Virginia on Signing Day last year to sign for the Gophers.

Bryce Brown? Screwed over Miami to go to Tennessee.

This happens all the time. These recruits are pressured to commit in order to secure a scholarship. Then, if they play well they try and get to where they really want to go.

So, in that sense, when half of Brewster’s classes are MAC and Sun Belt-level recruits, we should feel secure that not many kids will de-commit. However, Smith and Jabari Price are two of the best ones Brewster secured so far, and they de-committed for UCLA and UNC, respectively. Such is life.

Fair enough, good point.

I don't want to live in LA

not even for a day. the place is a shithole.

San Francisco, however, is a whole another story.

I was hoping JD Pride would go some place else. Talk about a waste.
