In Tubby We Trust

Sounds like the White/Bostick situation is all up to Tubby. My guess is they will miss 5 games as long as no new issues surface.

Here is your warning

Anyone who posts personal attacks about other posters, links to Facebook or other social networking sites in order to disparage people, or calls people “worst person ever on the earth” or the like is going to have that post deleted as soon as I see it.

This is a website dedicated to Gopher sports. If you want to act like a 5-year-old throwing insults, do it somewhere else. Stay on point.

by JG2112 on Nov 4, 2009 6:31 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

And dedicated to Gopher sports bashing, right JG?

Otherwise, why would Panther**** be able to post here still?

Or maybe he's still lingering because of the fact that every hero needs a villain?

knock it off

people disagree and when appropriate the Gopher programs can be criticized. JG is right, just because Pantherhawk goes out of his way to bash the program does not mean we have to resort to JR high name calling. Everyone here has a right to an opinion regardless if you agree with it or not.

Tell him he is wrong, engage in a debate, ignore him in hopes that he’ll go away; but personal attacks are immature.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

Are you warning me? What did I say?

A lot of us here write opinions, but what’s spewing from him is irrational hatred and mockery. And guess what? The tone NEVER changes.

I know I’m speaking for the vast majority when I say I’m very disappointed in you guys for allowing this guy to hang around; his posts are the only unpleasant thing about this blog, and it’s nearly enough to stop visiting here altogether.

Buddy

PantherHawk has gotten a warning. I believe that’s only fair. If we see anything else, he’ll get the banhammer. If you see anything else, you let us know. Self-policing seems to work well in the blogosphere.

As for your 7:18 comment above, when a Gophers team has something to criticize, someone should do it, and I do (someone at this blog plays bad cop. That’s me). When the team deserves accolades, which I amply handed out after the Purdue win, and which they CLEARLY DESERVE this week after a fantastic victory, they will receive them from me. The position I operate from is that I expect more than 6-6 out of the teams I support. I’m not apologizing for that.

Sorry JG, I wasn't referring to you with the bashing comment if that's what you think

It was directed towards someone else, whose dreaded moniker I won’t mention.

One other thing

I’m an unabashed homer when it comes to Gopher basketball and hockey because I trust the coaches. I’m much harder on Brewster for every reason I’ve ever given – I don’t think this job should be an apprenticeship and that’s why I’ve taken a critical tone, it’s out of concern he wouldn’t figure out how to coach. Saturday night was a crucial step, in my opinion, in the absolute RIGHT direction.

Peculiar.

I thought you bash Brewster because you’re a fan of the team that stole Princeton’s helmets.

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

My apologies

for linking to Pantherhawk’s photo collection. While I personally don’t see an issue with using publically available, self-posted information against someone, it apparently violates your rules here and, for that, I apologize. I won’t do it again.

I will second Buddylee’s comments, however, in that Pantherhawk is really not welcome here. He’s been posting on the site for three weeks with nothing but statements bashing the football program and Gopher athletes in general. Given your statement that posters must go elsewhere to “act like 5-year olds throwing insults,” I’m surprised it’s taken until now to warn him. Frankly, I don’t understand why a warning is necessary anyway. Anyone who has spent any time following the Big Ten on the Interwebs for the last few years is familiar with him and his antics. Are you expecting he will reform himself now based on your warning? Just ban the guy and be done with it. The fact that you allow him to post here really does nothing except frustrate your regulars, of which, like it or not, I am one and have been for the last 15 months.

ban him for what?

for having an opinion that gets people riled up? He acts like a tool, but ignore him and he’ll go away. He was a problem several months ago but then went away. Now he’s back, just ignore.

I’m not going to get into the business of banning content because it makes people mad or is idiotic. I don’t have that kind of time.

With all due respect, his posts are not opinions

But whatever. I’m not speaking of this anymore.

Thanks, JG! I feel whole again!!

Ok, and for the actual topic at hand:

I have no problem with Brewster playing Carter this weekend. Of course, I’m also assuming that he’s been up at about 6 in the morning getting a lovely view of the stairs at The Bank at a slightly-faster-than-a-jog pace.

If this is being handled internally and punishment has been handed down, I have no problem with it. If no punishment has been doled out, we’re in trouble of becoming the next Iowa, and not in the “Holy crap are we lucky to be undefeated” way.

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

You've got the right approach here WSR

but it just doesn’t mesh with the Mbakwe situation to me. I get the differences in crimes (even with Royce and Devron), but, I’m a big fan of punishing once you’re actually proven to have done something wrong.

If Trevor is acquitted, Gopher basketball fans will have been deprived of a potentially fantastic year for no reason, and that is not fair to the coach, to the team, to the fans.

by JG2112 on Nov 4, 2009 11:14 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree in theory.

There’s one difference, though: severity of the crime. I can understand taking a “Boys will be boys” approach to dealing with misdemeanors. But the allegations against Trevor are felony charges. You need to be a little more careful, and I think Maturi’s done a great job with that. He’s still going to school (most important in my book) and he’s still practicing with the team, but he’s just not playing.

While I’m disappointed as a basketball fan, as a mildly ethical person I understand the difference. And I hope Tubby has the good sense to absolutely physically demolish Royce to work the “stupid kid” out of him.

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

Well...

I try to avoid falling into my industry’s trap of “1+1 equaling whatever the boss wants it to be” as often as possible.

(Hell, I paid for 2 pops at lunch today because the salesman I went with asked for a water glass, then filled it with Coke.)

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.
