For the first five bowl practices, the seniors stay in the weight room for the early part, then rejoin the underclassmen when prep begins for Iowa State. Brewster came up with the idea as a way to help the development of the younger plays, including the redshirts, many of whom will be relied upon next year. It's an interesting concept.

Kent Youngblood telling us about Brewster's philosophy for bowl practices. No doubt these extra practices will be used for player development.

I don't see the problem with it

this is after all the Insight Bowl, if 10 practices are not enough on top of almost a month to study film then we are in more trouble than we thought.

Crow

this is still the 2009 season. This is still THIS year. This is a team that I have never been impressed with their esprit de corps. How can something like this help?? It seems to me that Brewster is always planning, thinking, acting in the future. The future is now!! IMO, this game needs to be played to win right now. Leaving the seniors in the weight room is a terrible idea. The more I think about Brewster and his M.O., the more impatient I get.

why

is it a terrible idea? Don’t you think it might help the team be a little fresher for the bowl?

Relax

What if he’s copying a method that Mack Brown uses?

Let’s allow the man to drive; nobody appreciates a backseat driver, right?

Sorry Buddy

but I can’t relax. And by keeping seniors away from the underclassmen, I feel that is a sign of relaxing on the coach’s part. If you don’t want to practice the seniors, let them play the role of a graduate assistant on the sideline. The only game is the next game. There should be a real sense of urgency on everyone’s part. Brewster better realize there may not be a next year for him if the team doesn’t show up agst ISU. I don’t buy that next year starts now. Plus, I think it shortchanges the seniors. This program needs a big win on 12-31. In short, I would pull out all the stops for this game. And that is why I do not see how leaving the seniors behind helps prepare for ISU.

Buddy

do you really think Mack Brown is holding seniors in the weight room right now?? Do you think he is working on next year’s team at the expense of this bowl game?? This Insight Bowl is our National Championship game. This game will set the tone for the off-season. Help with recruiting. If Brewster thinks he can spare any of these practice sessions he is mistaken. I need a happy hour beer.

None of this matters

When Weber trots out to take that first snap it will all be down hill. Brewster is on a train and Weber is his sign that the bridge ahead is out….but he ignores the sign and keeps on shoveling coal and picking up speed…..there will be a Tremendous crash.

I don't think it is that big of a deal

how much are the seniors going to benefit from tackling, blocking and catching drills? Everything related to scheme and preparing for Iowa State is involving the seniors. But if they are working out for the first 45 min or whatever it is of practice, I don’t think it is that big of a deal.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you
