James Green gives the Heisman to Tennessee
From Scout.com report
"James Green, Tallahassee (Florida) Leon, has committed to Minnesota. Green is on his official visit and notified Golden Gopher head coach Tim Brewster of his intent Saturday evening. Bill Greene has the story on the commitment.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers landed a huge commitment Saturday when they received a pledge from James Green, Tallahassee (Florida) Leon. Green, a four-star wide receiver committed on his official visit to head coach Tim Brewster.
"Yes, I have committed to Minnesota," Green announced this evening. "I feel so blessed to be a part of such a great program. I think I have a chance to play next year."
Green, a 2008 graduate, originally signed with Tennessee coming out of high school, but a problem with his test score caused him to not be admitted into school.
"I feel so blessed to have this opportunity, and I have to thank God for getting me this second chance. I will be enrolling in January and I will be going through spring football. I am completely qualified academically, and I am eligible right now."
"Coach Brewster was very happy I committed as was the entire coaching staff," Green exclaimed. "I'm very happy to be a Golden Gopher. I hope I can contribute right away, and I think I bring size and speed to the table. This is one of the happiest days of my life."

big weekend of comimts
Green and three JUCO’s. Story will be up later this morning running down all current verbals (24).
what you say here can, and will, be used against you
This is good news, however...
Given Green’s track record (USF, Tennessee, Minnesota) I wouldn’t count on him until the letter of intent is signed… But I’m guessing Brewster is pushing for some good pub right now and leaned on him to verbally commit now.
Interesting point about Brewster
He gets a fair number of commits on official visits. That makes me wonder how much he pressures for the commit on the spot, instead of allowing a kid to leave and make his mind up
(maybe this is from the Mack Brown way of recruiting: “You’ve got today to make your mind up, if you leave without signing you don’t have an offer and we’re moving on,” which is what Brown does at his Junior Days)
but it also could be an explanation as to why we’ve had a few de-commits this year. I realize, yeah, they happen everywhere and this is no different and on and on. But we’re talking Kip Smith, Manuel two weeks after committing, Huff 3 weeks after committing, the kid who de-committed to Purdue, Hawkins is rumored to maybe de-commit, and mraveling is hesitant about Green (seems like he was off the radar, let’s hope his commitment doesn’t re-open eyes in the SEC or elsewhere).
Maybe this is another reason to take JUCOs.
Manuel is Still a Gopher Commit
It was Antoine Lewis and Jabari Price (the other de-commits you were thinking of). Zagzebski was another early on in the year.
The kicker committed early before he had much other interest and then had an incredible senior year. Can’t really blame him for wanting to go to CA and maybe actually get an opportunity to kick a field goal or two. Our offense was shut-out 4 times this year.
Losing Huff was big and Hawkins could see immediate playing time as well. Our receivers shouldn’t scare any recruits off who are worried about playing itme.
Green is going to sign this week
he’s able to enroll in January so he and JUCOs who will be enrolling early will be signing this week (don’t remember the date). So we don’t have to wait too long to find out if he’ll go elsewhere.
