The Gophers have landed another commitment for the 2010 class in Florida running back Devon Wright. Wright also had offers from Michigan, Michigan State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, Boston College and Indiana.
Four star linebacker Corey Nelson from Dallas Skyline High School is reported to be visiting this weekend. Although he is committed to Texas A & M and may just be visiting friends, a fifth skyline standout would be a great addition to the squad. Nelson has offers from Michigan, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Texas, and LSU to name a few.
Golden Gopher Football Blog has a couple of well written articles discussing the possible Big Ten expansion:
Bottom line is fans and Big Ten folks want more money and more exposure for their conference, yet I remain unconvinced adding a 12th team does either- and in fact could further hurt our reputation. Get with the 21st Century and allow night games in November and December and an extra bye week that pushes the conference schedule back into late November and early December and you'll get your exposure and maintain a steady stream of two teams into the BCS. Oh, and it would also help if we'd start winning some of those BCS bowls and actually producing some skill position talent that was watchable.
An Iowa writer discusses their players who were semi-snubbed for All-American honors. Even rival fans should admit that Bryan Bulaga is a great lineman, and probably deserved to make the first team. Such is life in Iowa.
The Minnesota women's volleyball team had a great run, but were swept by Texas last night.

Yeah, let me edit that. Either a noon (11 CST) or 330 (230 CST) start time is Big Ten Football in November.
Minnesota will get a couple of those starts next year. I’m pretty sure the USC game is going to pull the marquee time slot on September 18th of 2:30 CST. If the Gophers can beat MIddle Tennessee and go into that game 2-0, we should have College GameDay at TCF for the USC game.
Why not night?
What is the issue with having them at night? I really don’t like the 11 AM games at all. Texas had one 11 AM game down here this year and everyone was like, “What the hell? 11 AM? This sucks.” And I had to agree with them even though I was used to it.
Maybe it doesn’t need to be 7 PM, but maybe 2 PM and 5:30 PM start times. I don’t see the problem with night football. All the Big Ten stadiums have lights, right? Let’s use them.
the no night games is just for Nov/Dec games
cause it gets COLD.
what you say here can, and will, be used against you

Sniffle...Sniffle...Sniffle
I think we can all deal with a little cold. We are a bunch of hearty folks in the upper midwest.
as long as I can keep my press box seat secured
makes no difference to me. :)
although the long walk to my car was often cold this year. Anyone want to hang around and give me a ride next year following the Brewster press conference?

I’ll give you one school that will never have dedicated night games: that school in Ann Arbor.
Their stadium doesn’t have lights.
The surrounding neighborhoods around Michigan Stadium won’t allow it. The fire and police don’t want to do it. The golf course next to Michigan Stadium doesn’t have enough lights and the tailgaters there would be screwed.
Also, there are thousands of high-paying alumni who drive in from Chicago for the games that want to be home at a decent hour.
College Bowls???????
How about setting up a college bowl pick um in office pools????
You called Oops Pow Surprise a "writer?"
I think that might be the nicest thing anyone’s ever said about him.
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.
