Golden Nuggets for 2.10.09
The Star Tribune's Jim Souhan pens a very nice column on Williams Arena PA guy Dick Jonckowski. I thought the opening few grafs were great.
In 1964, Dick Jonckowski was standing outside Williams Arena, trying to figure out how to get in to watch his beloved Gophers, when the Michigan team bus pulled up. The great Cazzie Russell stepped out.
Jonckowski asked, "Mr. Russell, do you mind if I carry your bag?" Russell said, "Who cares?"
Jonckowski did. He carried the bag all the way to the Michigan locker room, then sneaked behind the Wolverines bench and stayed there all game.
"Nobody said a word," Jonckowski said. "Just unbelievable."
Great anecdote. I bet Jonckowski loves that story.
It's great when guys like Jonckowski get a little attention. Kudos to Souhan for finding a neat story to tell.
- The Pioneer Press has a Q&A with Trent Tucker as he preps to have his UofM number retired tonight at Williams Arena. I was just a pup when Tucker was playing, so I don't really have memories of him playing for the Gophers. Does anyone here have any memories of Tucker? I'd love to hear them.
- Slam Online ranks Royce White as the 25th best prospect in the Class of 2009 and Rodney Williams as the 27th best prospect in the Class of 2009. Only Illinois recruit DJ Richardson ranks higher among Big Ten commits.
- In his blog, Marcus Fuller talks with Devoe Joseph's brother, Cory, who, like his brother, has a D1 future on the basketball court. Tubby Smith, along with the likes of Rick Pitino, appear to be after the younger Joseph. In the same post, Fuller notes that Indiana will be without wingman Devon Dumes for some time after being suspended indefintely.
- The What Else? Show must be bored.
- The Daily 49er has your Dan Monson update. His LBSU squad still finds itself atop the Big West. I'd really enjoy an LBSU-Minnesota NCAA matchup. But something tells me the Gophers need to get to work to make that happen.
- Off topic. I need to find new television shows to get into. Heroes is just going way south. Mad Men isn't on right now. The Wire is defunct. Anyone watch Damages? I hear that's pretty good. Recommendations?

TV Show
First, I love the link to Slam. I used to read them all the time back in the day, and have kind of forgotten about them. Plus, it’s good to see the Rdubs get some love.
Second, you have to either check out Chuck, or get the dvds for “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Chuck is absolutely hilarious, and the female agent may be the hottest woman on TV right now.
Damages
My roommate watches that and he likes it. It runs kind of weirdly…going from present day to six years later and then back. Good cast.
I really like Burn Notice at 9 p.m. CT on USA…great spy show and Bruce Campbell is hilarious. Life On Mars after Lost on WEdnesdays is great too.
Don’t remember TT’s playing days at the U, but I do remember “I feel ya young fella!” I think I was the only person that liked TT as a Wolves color guy. BTW, w/o Big Al, that team wins maybe five of their final 32 games.
Burn Notice
Definitely.
House is also solid, although it used to be much better.
Kill, maim, pillage, burn! Kill, maim, pillage, burn! Eat babies! Badger babies!
I'll second burn notice
my favorites shows are Lost, Chuck, then a bunch are third place caliber (Heroes, Burn Notice, The Office, 24)
what you say here can, and will, be used against you

TV
I’ve tried Life on Mars, couldn’t get into it. I’ve never really given Chuck a chance. And I’ve never heard of “It’s always in fun of Philadelphia.” I usually like House. Damages seems like a show that I couldn’t jump into mid season, so I’ll probably grab the DVDs at some point.
Maroon and Gold Headquarters: The Daily Gopher
Hulu.com
You can find a lot of these shows on hulu.com. I highly recommend checking out It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. If you watch the episode entitled “The Gang Gets Invincible,” then you will understand why there is always a random person in the Gophers basketball student section completely covered in bright green spandex.

Tucker
I was in school during Tucker’s years – and it comes down to this – simply one of the best shooters to ever done the maroon and gold. From anywhere, anytime. He also enjoyed the game and it showed.
TV & Tucker
I would second the Burn Notice, House, & Life On Mars picks.
I was at the “U” when TT was there. Trent could take over a game with his NBA 3-point distance shots. It will be great to see him get the recognition he deserves.
Daryl Mitchell was there at the same time, and Mark Hall was awesome when he had his head on straight. Those teams were great fun to watch.
Friday Night Lights
Really great show, especially for football fans. If you have Netflix, it’s even better, because you can watch the first two seasons online.
On on our DVR
