Cosgrove Speaks!!
As I write this fanpost, I sure hope I'm listening to Brett Favre talk about how much he loves football for the last time. Just leave already.
One of the new co-defensive coordinators for your favorite Minnesota Division I-A football team is Kevin Cosgrove. He was recently interviewed by a rival site. The link is here (GN and PJS - any issue with me linking to this site?):

A couple points:
(1) the interviewer editorializes that Cosgrove has only had 1 bad year in 20 years' coaching, and that has clouded the rest of his achievements. That is probably true, and a fair point to consider as the team and fanbase moves forward. HOWEVER;
(2) Cosgrove studied a lot during his year "off." Good.
(3) Notice how Cosgrove came to interview for the job. Brewster called him.
So, Brewster called Cosgrove and Fisch to be his coordinators.
Is this how the process normally takes place? Maybe this is different than the normal hiring process in, say, every other industry. It would seem to me that if coaches knew that the Minnesota Defensive Coordinator position was open, Coach Brewster should receive about 30 resumes.
Maybe it happened that he ran out of applicants and then turned to his friends. That certainly is possible, but I still wonder given that Brewster offered both coordinator gigs to his old friends and colleagues.
These hires have intrigued me. Are they unusual in how they've occurred in big-time college football during a full-blown, national search for replacement coordinators?

On Cosgrove.....one big yawn from me.
As for linking to GH, I have on issues. For football coverage, I prefer GH to the disinterested coverage from Kent Youngblood.

Youngblood
Coverage is a very loose and generous description of what Kent Youngblood does for the Gophers. Then again, it is Valentine’s Day.
