Minnesota's own, Seantrel Henderson is the #1 recruit in the nation (?)

Tim Leighton of the Pioneer Press is reporting that Rivals has declared Seantrel Henderson as the nation's #1 recruit for 2010.  I can't seem to find an article or list or link to verify this but I'm citing the source who is citing a source.

Tomorrow is National Signing Day for the class of 2009 and then the intense recruiting focus will turn on the 2010 kids.  Clearly the 2010 kids have already been targeted, solicited, facebook stalked and contacted by coaches, agents, bloggers and recruiting services for months now.  But the full attention of those who follow recruiting will turn to them before the ink is dry on the 2009 signatures.

But the state of Minnesota can boast the highest ranked recruit in the country.  If Tim Brewster ever wants to live up to his stated goal of locking down the boarders now would be the time.  While Brewster has done a better job of keeping the bulk of local kids in state, he has been unable to land the top ranked MN kid in both of his recruiting classes.  Moses Alipate and Sam Maresh are very nice commitments but he has also missed on Wilile Mobley and Michael Floyd.  Landing the massive Henderson would make a monstrous statement and make his early misses forgivable.

I am very pessimistic about our chances.  The best available information shows that Minnesota has had only one five-star recruit even take an official to campus.  None have ever signed on to be  Gopher.  Henderson would be a revolutionary and a pioneer were he to commit to Minnesota.  History has shown that when given a chance Minnesota kids take the opportunity to play for USC, Ohio State, Florida State, Notre Dame, etc.  I would be pleasantly surprised blown away were Henderson to buck that trend.

But let the facebook stalking begin.  Seantrel Henderson is on the clock.

ESPN

Tom Lemming had him at #1 for a while. I’m not sure if he still is on ESPN. The kid is a stud though. Huge and can run, scary when he pulls and gets up a head of steam.

I'm pretty sure

WLA is pushing him to go to USC. That means we’re screwed.

who is WLA?

If this kid is number one, we’ll be fighting Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, LSU and Alabama for his services. Ergh – the pressure is on Brewster next year to get some wins and convince this guy the U is for his future.

WLA = Walker Lee Ashley

defensive lineman who went to USC a couple years ago. But he never stepped foot on the field and was only there for part of a year. Then for the two years everyone thought he would end up with the Gophers. I think he tried to get into the U but couldn’t get admitted, but don’t quote me on that.

His dad played for the Vikings back in the day.

Not site :p

I doubt we’ll be able to get him, but that would be pretty huge if we could. Brewster has been hyped as a guy who can recruit the hell of out people all along, let’s see it.

I knew it didn’t look right but the spell checker OK’d it. And I was rushing to get this done so I could go eat supper.

Henderson

The NFL will find him wherever he chooses.

i wonder if playing basketball (as a walk-on) at Minnesota with AAU buddies might help Minnesota’s chances?
