Summer is here... sort of

Another academic year has passed us by and with that another year of Golden Gopher athletics.  With a little baseball left to be played, there is still something out there for those with a ravenous Maroon & Gold appetite.  For many, however, thoughts are now wandering to Fall.  The sweet smell of hickory wafting up from the grill as the brats and burgers sizzle on the grill, the crisp and refreshing quality of that 7th beer as it washes down your pre-game meal, the music of a pretty co-ed's laughter as you regale she and her friends with tales of the past.  We're talking about tailgate season.

I love summer.  I spend weeks spent at the cabin fishing the days away, wakeboarding, kite boarding, or just going for a swim after sauna.  There are great events, such as Tipsy and Lloyd's annual 4th of July Beer Blast and Scott Pumper's Labor Day Bash, but those mearly serve as a momentary distraction.  During the summer, I spend many hours a day planning and daydreaming about tailgate season.  And this year is going to be special...

Our tickets are selected.  By closely monitoring certain fans' seat selections, we've went to great lengths to ensure that we aren't sitting by any dicks.  Lloyd and I have made it clear to our renter's that we'll be throwing large tailgate parties in our yard in stadium village each game day, so they have to be prepared to either vacate or join the fun.  Everything is in place.  Now we play the waiting game...

For the opener, I expect that everyone will dress in their finery, much like gentleman and ladies did in the old days of Memorial Stadium.  One only needs to look back at historic photos of the crowd to see that a college football game was an event and most fans dressed well and carried themselves with dignity.  I have been in discussions with the tailors at Heimie's Haberdashery in St. Paul and will be having a new gold suit for opening day.  In anticipation of warm weather, it will be of lighter fabric than my other Fall weight game day suits.

We're so close, I can almost taste it...  on to September!!!

Go Gophers!!!

I just purchased some fine gold silk and now I am often to the North End to have Giovanni’s wife tailor me a fine suit.

I’m glad to report that I checked in with Pumper, and his plans for the Labor Day Bash are coming along nicely. He spent the winter toiling in his garage to complete his home-made pig roaster and put the finishing touches on his kegerator. He’s made a few trips to nearby farms and has got his eye on a certain prize hog (for roasting, though one could say that his taste in women is roughly equivalent) for The Bash. He’s also considering booking a band for The Bash.

I’ve got some new ideas for the 4th of July Beer Blast and Official Golden Gopher Football Roundtable. If anyone has some interesting discussion topics, please add to this thread. Keep in mind, however, that topics pertaining to actual football may not be addressed during the panel discussion and will most lkely be relegated to the Q and A session.

I’m really glad that we hand selected our tenants for this fall; they seem to be genuinely interested in learning the fine art of tailgating from old veterans.

I just pulled the trigger on a few yards of awesome seersucker (sample below) for trousers and a sport coat. I’ll be off to see my guy tomorrow.
