PrintThere are preliminary reports on the Internet that highly touted running back Calvin Phillips, a top prospect for the 2011 recruiting class from Illinois, has committed to Minnesota. As a 6'2, 205 pound junior, Phillips has the size to be a bruiser as a running back.

He’s not playing against great competition. To put that in perspective, Caledonia won the 2A championship last year.
So to answer your question, I could argue with that. ;-)

but I would still bet the list is really short of Sophomores (even at the 2A level) who racked up 1,400 yds and 24 TDs.

re:Caledonia won the 2A championship last year.
Some lucky team in the Big 10 will feature a starting DT from Caledonia, MN in 2009!
He passes the eyeball test
He looks and runs like a stud. The forty time might be a tad too slow to be considered a top 10 running back, but he has couple of years to improve it. Nobody hits their top sprinter potential when they are 15 years old.
