Question about gameday tailgating...
Pardon my ignorance as I'm not overly familiar with the tailgating setup at the U of M. A group of us are staying downtown Minneapolis (Warehouse district) for the game. Is it feasible for us to walk across the river to the stadium? Should we take the light rail from Nicollet to someplace closer first? Also, are any bars either Downtown, Seven Corners or Dinkytown open early on Saturday for drinks? The 11:00am kickoff is going to hurt... Suggestions? Thanks for the help!

that would be a long walk
the warehouse district to the stadium is not walkable. If you took the lightrail to the Metrodome and then walked it would still be a long way. It is doable but I wouldn’t.
What I would suggest is taking the lightrail to the dome then walk across 35W to a grouping of bars called the 7 corners (MAP). I’m willing to bet my press pass that there will be shuttles from those bars heading to the stadium.
Other than that, take a taxi. Parking is a bitch down there and the cost of the taxi would be worth it.
what you say here can, and will, be used against you
You might...
want to think about getting off one stop later on the light rail at the Cedar/Riverside stop. Its on the other side of 35W and isnt but 3 blocks from the west edge of campus.

7 Corners Bar Shuttle
There was a shuttle starting at 4pm this past weekend that picked folks up in front of Sgt Prestons (one of the 7 Corners bars). I’m assuming the same will happen every future weekend.
I’d say it’s totally walkable, and a nice walk at that – along the river almost the whole way, on either side. If you haven’t spent much time in Mpls it’s a great way to see the city – St Anthony Main, Guthrie Theater, Mill City Museum, etc. A nice route is to walk the bike/ped path along the river, cross at the Stone Arch Bridge, then take University to the stadium. It will take you about an hour, depending on your speed.
I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it

excellent point
I’ve never made the walk so I don’t know how long it is but it would be a great walk.

I tailgate in one of the designated tailgate lots on the U of M west bank. It is a great lot – 89. It’s small – about 70 spaces and had a good mix of young and old this past weekend. I kept watch all day and nobody from lot 86 tried to sneak over and steal my cheeseburgers, so I think we’re safe on that front. There is a shuttle from that area to the stadium, but my group chooses to walk. Using the pedestrian bridge that connects the west bank to Dinkytown, we easily made the 1 mile walk in 30 minutes, strolling at a leisurely pace, enjoying one last beer (discreetly), and soaking in the day. It was great to pass through campus and see so many people out wearing maroon and gold.
In your case, I would give thought to hitting 7 corners and/or stroll through the tailgate lots and find someone willing to offer you beer or a bloody mary.
For this early affair, we’ll be making flapjacks, huevos rancheros, and enjoying a gin and grapefruit juice combination.

Tipsy...
I suggest a Summit Great Northern Porter for the 11:00 AM games. It doubles as both beer and coffee. Super delicious.
Huevos rancheros = yummy
BTW…check out my drinking/food tour on the fanpost.
