Tubby gets second 2010 commit

It looks like Tubby gets his second 2010 committment.

Austin Hollins, a 6-foot-4 shooting guard from Germantown who visited Minnesota this past weekend, has committed to the Gophers, according to sources close to the program. Hollins, who is one of the country's top shooters, picked Minnesota over Arkansas and Memphis. He is the second commit for Minnesota, joining Elliott Eliason and they have one scholarship left for the Class of 2010.

He apparently is a very good student (4.0 last I heard), very high BBIQ (his dad is the coach of the Memphis Grizzlies afterall) and is a solid defender.  I have to say I love the Gophers getting some more long distance shooters who play defense.  He may have to add about 15 pounds to last through the Big Ten season though.

Let the kid redshirt

then turn him loose on the Big Ten.

Tubby is an awesome recruiter. Well done. The Big Ten is going to be a very solid conference going forward and the Gophers should be on the top of the pack.

Here's to hoping that

Tubby get’s Joseph with his last scholarship. Kid could be our starting PG from day one.

The one thing

that the gophers have going for them recruiting wise is the fan atmosphere. Some call it MN Nice, but really we are just happy to be competitive. My example is Tubby Smith. It had to be pretty nice to go from a place where anything less than a championship was criticized to the level of support he has gotten here. Plus I want to say that the UMN committed to building or upgrading the practice facilities to allow Tubby to wow more high level recruits. I like the type of guys that Tubby is going after. Not one of them seems like a premadonna. I would expect Eliason to redshirt…not sure about Hollins though, that will depend on how Hoffarber plays this year.

I Think

Hollins may turn out like the Curry youngsters did.

Underrated in HS but excellent in college.
