Wedding this Saturday... a question.

Weddings on Football weekends thread

I posted the thread linked above nearly 1 year ago when my "friend" announced that he was getting married on Oct. 3, 2009.

Feel free to review if necessary, but the long and short of it is that this guy I know is getting married on Saturday in Duluth, MN.  To his good fortune, the 11 AM kickoff might allow me to make it to Duluth in time for the 5 PM wedding.  If nothing else, I'll make the reception which is quite generous of me since I am potentially giving up a post-game tailgate celebrating a victory over Wisconsin in order to attend.

Given the sacrifices I am making, do I still need to give the bride and groom a gift?  Or should they be punished for being so stupid as to schedule a wedding on such an important day?

Your feedback will be appreciated.

I recall that post

And I still think it was one of the best ever. What happened to the extra ticket?

He's out of the group...

I have 4 tickets in my name and have a few friends who regularly buy a full season ticket from me. The groom, in this case, was one of the former ticket buyers, but this year I didn’t allow him to buy one. I kept it for myself and have people scheduled to join me for each game.

I like the ticket stub idea. I will frame a ticket stub and give it as a gift… a reminder of their special day.

Make sure you show up to the wedding sporting your maroon and gold suit

As a gift, present the couple with tickets to the SDSU game (upper deck). That should suffice.

Gift

I would present them with ticket stubs to the game you were at this Saturday, so they will always remember their anniversary date. If you feeling really generous, throw in a couple of Gopher bottle cousy’s, that should suffice as his spineless ways have already cost you enough.

Wedding on a football Saturday

When I am czar of the world, one of my first edicts will be that no social event takes place on any college football Saturday even if my team, the Gophers, have a bye. There are plenty of other games I will want to watch.

So, no weddings, funerals, family reunions, bar mitzvahs….nothing!! My daughter already has been forewarned about this. She can get married on a football Saturday if she wants. I just won’t be there!!

well am falling victim to the funeral on Saturday

so much for my view from the pressbox and opportunity to take pics of the Gophers storming the Axe. If I die on or near Axe week, I hope my family / friends skip my funeral.

what you say here can, and will, be used against you

I'd feel the same way

Put this on my tombstone “shame I had to die, even bigger shame to die during Gopher football season”.

I wonder if you can put it in your will to keep you on ice until the last Gopher game of the season has been played.

I've thought about this before...

I am planning to leave a large percentage of my estate to the U of M if they will carry out a simple request.

If suitable method exists for a very lifelike embalming, I would like to be placed in my seat at TCF (I am open to there being a clear box built around me) so my friends, family, offspring if I have any, and generations of decedents can sit by me during games.

Designated driver?

Have the B & G hired you a designated driver for the trip to Duluth after you witness the Gophers reclaim the axe from those pesky Badgers?

It's taken care of.

In addition to myself, 3 other guys who were invited to the wedding are also taking in the game first and heading up to Duluth. We’re all sending our lady friends up the night before, so they won’t be in the way on Saturday. Our plan for making the wedding hinges on flawless execution and having them involved would screw things up.

I am taking my nephew to the game. His mother is meeting us in a minivan at Bierman immediately after the game ends and we’ll get on 35 W at Stinson/Quarry area to avoid traffic. If it has been raining, we’ll change into wedding clothes in the van. If not, I’ll be wearing wedding attire to the game.

I’m still rather torn. If there is one victory I would like to linger around for and celebrate with a long post game tailgate, it’s this one. It’s a possibility that I’ll get caught up in the moment and skip the wedding all together.
