Daily Nugz 02.25.10

In the near future you'll be seeing a new feature here at TDG.  I haven't nailed down the name yet, something like "Better Know a Gopher" or "Profiles in Gopher Excellence" or something along those lines.  Essentially we are going to profile Gopher athletes, hopefully the best of Gopher athletes.  All too often the athletes that dominate the headlines are those who grab the negative headlines.  Royce White, Kevin Whaley, etc.  But what gets lost is that there are hundreds of athletes who are excellent students, successful athletes and great kids who are setting themselves up to be outstanding contributors to society.  Interview #1 is on tape and hopefully I'll get the time to get this out as soon as possible. The hope is that this will be a continual series highlighting kids across all the sports highlighting the best of Gopher athletics.

WTF is that supposed to mean?

I’m lost in translation…

"If we got to we're going to crawl in this locker room. And on our back is going to be an axe..."

I think the Lucia issue is worth discussing. I don’t think he should be fired because I think the Gophers are stuck in a huge pickle – their best players will get drafted and will go for the money of the NHL. The roster’s stars will now always turn over every two years whereas guys like Crowley, Bonin, Pohl, Hauser stayed for four. So the guys who stay are solid but really not difference makers, and the guys who you need to stay (Erik Johnson?) are gone before you get the best of them. Frustrating.

Woke up

It hurts even more today…

PS – could Devoe have jumped into Kramer and drawn the foul? Or was he a little too far to reasonably draw contact? I know, too late. Just curious.

Good riddance to the Dome Dog

The Twins go from having the worst food in all of baseball (seriously, the dome dog just wasn’t all that great) to having the best.

With Apologies To Randy Edsall, The Big East Remains Mostly Harmless

FILE -- This is an Oct. 18, 2008 file photo showing Connecticut corner back Jasper Howard (6) trying to get the crowd into the game during the fourth quarter of an NCAA college football game against Rutgers, in Piscataway, N.J. Jasper Howard had his little sisters' names tatooed on his chest. His friends say it was a constant reminder of why he was at U Conn _ to provide his family with a better life than the one he had in Miami's Little Haiti. (AP Photo/Mel Evans, File) link
