Post game press conference was VERY interesting
Xavier coach, Chris Mack thanked Jim Souhan for motivating his team.
Tubby seemed to scold the local media for writing things about his players. Not sure what he was exactly getting at but it was an odd moment.
Tubby was asked about the Auburn rumors but to be honest I wasn’t sold on his response. He said it was “all talk” and that nobody has made an offer. But he didn’t kill the rumors like I expected he would.

coach Mack quote...
Q. Can you talk about just your talent level that you thought compared to Minnesota coming into this game.
COACH MACK: Well, I worried about their size. Also worried in the fact that they had three kids on the perimeter that shoot the eyes out of the ball. But there’s different ways to motivate kids. And we’re tired of being the little engine that could. We’re a really good program. And our kids aren’t scared to play anybody. We don’t always win, but we’re not afraid to compete. And Jen and Jim Souhan, however you pronounce his name, from the Star Tribune, thanks for the motivation to tell our kids that we should be fodder against Minnesota. Our kids are used to this stage. We played a lot of NCAA tournaments. We’ve been very successful. It’s my charge and our kids’ charge to continue to do that.
that was a pretty funny moment

Way to go Souhan.
You cover the Gophers never and give the opposition bulletin board material. I’ve typically defended Souhan. No longer.

and I think
Tubby was scolding Myron in his post game. I’m not exactly sure what the deal was.
Tubby gave Myron the infamous Tubby stare, it was interesting.

Tubby's quote
He was asked about the season of distractions (his father dying, suspensions, etc). Then Tubby started rambling about this being a family and these kids don’t have the same sense of family that many of the rest of us were brought up with. Then his tone turned to scolding, he gave the stare and said…
So we’re…it’s our job as adults, as grown people, to know the difference and share that with these young people so they understand it. And sometimes we lose that because everybody’s worried about, everybody’s got to write something or they’ve got to say something. They just think they’ve got to do it. It’s part of their job. I know that.
It was odd and I’m not sure what the deal was, but it was uncomfortable.

We'll always have Indianapolis.
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

Here is the question...
Was this a “good” season?
what you say here can, and will, be used against you The Daily Gopher
No, Just Fair
Tubby averages 24 W in his career.
So 25+ W is MINIMUM for good season.
Tubby averages 2 W per NCAA appearance.
So 0 W is not good in NCAA tourney.

Gopher game
I was not aware of the press reports etc. but it was apparent that Xavier had some better athletes and seemed to fairly beat the gophers. The news about Tubby seemed oddly timed a few hours before game time. Best for the gophers if that was kept quiet. Again, the gophers missed free throws and some close in shots. Hoffharber missed too many of his shot attempts and Westbrook missed too many also. The gophers needed a much better performance. The Tubbly may be leaving news today is very discouraging, worse than the loss.

yeah they were missing some open looks…oh well, nice that they made the tournament, given how things looked a couple weeks ago I’m pretty happy on the whole. I’d be really sad to see Smith go…anyways I guess we’ll see. Thanks for all the great stuff on the site guys, and thanks to everyone for great conversation!
I'm feverished, or the way you want to spell it
The Gophers lost today...
because even with a height advantage they couldn’t out-rebound Xavier. It’s seems that’s been the case for ever loss this year
Tubby is staying
It’s all rumors.

it was an odd season...
to be sure, but I still think in ways it was a sucessful season.
Devoe broke out. You can tell that he will be the leader of this team next year.
Colton Definately improved toward the last half of the season which gives hope for next year.
Ralph looked better. Still plays timidly a lot of the time, but at least he showed some agression, which hopefully he will be able to harness next season.
Blake found his shoooting touch.
They made the NCAA tournament, and played in the championship of the BT tourney. Getting to the NCAA tournament is a positive, next year we have to hope that we are getting in adn capable of doing something.
Disappointments
Rodney Williams and Justin Cobss showed little imporvement.
Al nolen got suspended. For the life of me i can’t believe this happened. I mean he’s a damn junior. Get it together Al.
The Royce situation
The Trevor situation.
I think they will be better next year. I hope that either ROyuce or Trevor comes back, because this team lacks a true Power Forward and there were times (yesterday’s lack of rebounding) where that really hurt us.
Go Gophers
Good Summary
Gophers should set goals of 25+ W and Sweet 16 next season.

Gnation's question
all things taken into consideration, I believe it was a good season and yet, disappointing. Unless a major surprise (player) shows up next year, I see the same season scenario playing out.
TCB
for the most part I agree with you success/disappointment breakdown. I thought Carter came on this season. I hate to say it but I don’t think this team will be better next year if Hoffarber is on the court a lot. He definetely will have a role, but in my opinion, we give up too much to hope he will be hot. Priority #1 is to get some muscle at the PF spot. As much as I would like, I don’t see next year being much different.
