UPDATE: Auburn Hires Tony Barbee as Basketball Coach
Tony Barbee, the head coach at UTEP, will be the new basketball coach at Auburn. Unfortunately, many recruits and college basketball fans may still believe the false report mentioned during the Gophers' NCAA Tournament game about Tubby leaving Minnesota for the Tigers.

Clearly a mistake.
Tony Barbee must be a nom de whistle of Orlando Smith.
Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

I wasn't worried about Auburn
It is the Georgia Tech job that concerns me. And the Iowa job of course, but mostly just Georgia Tech.
what you say here can, and will, be used against you The Daily Gopher
Hewitt just announced that he turned down the St. Johns offer
and will be staying at Georgia Tech. Rest easy.

No chance on the Auburn job
Tubby wants nothing to do with the SEC. It would be a nightmare for him to face Kentucky every year. Georgia Tech is a tempting prospect but I do not believe that offer is coming. GT wants a comer. General feeling is that Tubby is past his prime.
Past his prime?
Get real. Tubby is 58. If we could have gotten Joe Paterno at 58, we’d have had a 25-year dynasty in our football program instead of a coaching carousel with Glen Mason sitting atop the pile of wreckage. I really don’t think anyone is less interested in Tubby because of his age. If anything, it’s because of his salary. “Up-and-coming” coaching prospects are attractive for the same reason… not because they might be a good coach for 30 years, but because they do not command high salaries.

The real question
Tubby isn’t seriously interested in going anywhere. He just wants a new practice facility, and he’ll get one if he sticks around a few more years. The real question is whether Cory Joseph will be joining him in MPLS this fall. I realize there’s not much to speculate on until he announces his decision, but that is going to be the only Gopher Hoops newsbreaker of the next few months.

please don't say that
I can think of soo many horrible newbreakers that could come up. If this year from an off the court standpoint has taught me anything it’s that it could always be worse.
