Kyle Theret suspended indefinitely

This from the U of Minn Athletic Comm staff...

Gophers' Theret Suspended

University Of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster announced Monday that defensive back Kyle Theret (Sr., Murrieta, Calif.) has been suspended indefinitely.

The suspension is for a violation of team rules and policies. There will be no further comment on the matter from Coach Brewster or the student-athlete.

I don't want to comment too much until we know what the suspension is actually for but this stuff has got to stop.  For the most part Gopher Football has avoided staying out of any "major" trouble.  No major arrests for violence or sexual assault or anything like that.  But this has really got to stop.  No more night club issues or picking fights outside of a pizza parlor, can't we all just get along?

while undisciplined and immature

this does not appear to be a major violation and I would doubt it will cost him any games in the 2010 season. I have nothing to base that on other than a 4th degree Driving while impaired is fairly minor.

I’m not condoning nor am I excited by this, but I wouldn’t think it will result in anything major. He didn’t beat anybody, he didn’t take advantage of a drunk girl at a party, he didn’t flash a weapon, he didn’t steal anything. Players at other schools do much worse and get light slaps on the wrist. I appreciate that we tend to punish players for stupidity but I suspect this will blow over.

Partially agree

I agree 4th degree DUI is the most minor and fairly common (unfortunately) however, for someone who was supposed to be taking a leadership role on the defense (as mentioned during the spring practice blogs on GopherSports.com) this is not the type of leadership we need. I’m not saying a leader can’t make a mistake but there is a higher standard. I would hope Brewster sits him for Spring practice and the Middle Tenn St. game and between now and then he get his ducks in a row to make up for this. Meanwhile, another youngster gets a chance in spring practice to step up and take some reps with the 1st string. Who is below Theret on the depth chart?

DUI is not “major?” Hit & run is not “major?” What planet are you people from? Iowa players get 2 games for DUI!! Theret won’t miss a second………..

He should have just punched a Cab driver.

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

How did your basketball team do this year?

Didn’t see much of your lame a&& this winter if at all. Or were you busy repping for Masengill?

Pantyhawk is right

If only Theret had punched someone (preferably a cabbie) after getting drunk, he wouldn’t receive any real type of punishment.

Or if his last name was the same as the head coaches – then he would have to wait until his third violation for any “real” punishment.

Continue To Show Your Brain Power

Compare felony hit & run while DUI with public intox & defending yourself from a maniac hurling racial slurs at you while trying to run you over with a car!! Gopher fan delusion at it’s best!!! FYI, Ferentz was suspended from the team the entire spring and summer. He couldn’t even lift weights at the complex. This was for public intox…..not being in a position to take out a family of four at an intersection…..

Anyone ever told you the more you write the dumber you sound?

Aside from the sad fact that you probably hate your life, I feel major, MAJOR sympathy for you because you might just live to be old enough to realize that this shit that you spew all over online is really the only thing you’ve done with your life.

A pretty big waste if you ask me.

BTW, a spring and summer suspension barely means anything

It’s always the fall that really counts, and curiously your wonderful coach rarely seems to punish around that time.
