Maurice Walker Commits to Minnesota

Myron Medcalf of the Star Tribune has just reported that 6'10, three star center Maurice Walker has committed to Minnesota.  Let's hope that his good friend, Cory Joseph, is soon to follow.

rumor mill isn't supporting the Joseph to Minn theory

I like the Walker signing. Mbakwe comes back, Sampson & Iverson dominate the paint this year and Walker gets to redshirt his freshman year and back up the big men his rFR year giving him time to develop and dominate for three years.

and don't forget Eliason

we have big men for several years, now we need some wings and guards who can dominate the perimeter.

Joseph probably a week away

Sounds like Joseph will wait until after his final game (on Saturday) to make/confirm his final decision. That means it will probably be next Monday before we hear anything. That’s not a bad thing, as he can now mull over Walker’s committment for a few more days, which can’t hurt Minnesota’s chances. By the way, I love the Canadian pipline we are starting to build… From the Border to the Barn!

The Hoff

If it’s catchy we’re looking for, what do you guys think of my idea to print T-shirts next season for Gopher hoops that have giant Blake Hoffarber faces on them and read, " Don’t Hassle the Hoff."

I think it will be either Texas or MN

that gets Cory. Nova just signed another high ranking PG to their 2010 class. I know that Texas has a very highly ranked PG signed for 2011. I just can’t see UConn or UNLV.

Not to pour gasoline on that smouldering carcass that is Iowa Hawkeye basketball,

but has anyone been keeping track of that sorry mess from Iowa City? They stand an excellent chance of being even worse next year, with transfers and decommits. That must be so depressing-at least I hope so.

As a regular tormentor on BHGP,

Yes.

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

PJS

I would call it a giant disappointment instead of “fail.” If UT and the U of M are battling for a prized recruit, UT wins 9 out of 10 of those contests. Just the way it is unfortunately.

The Tristan effect

With all the “We already have Cory Joseph’s brother” hype, I’ve lost sight of the fact that Texas already has Tristan Thompson (Cory’s friend and long-time teammate). That probably cancels out some of the Devoe Advantage, but I agree that it would be a mild shock at this point if he ends up committing to a school other than Minnesota or Texas.

The only difference between

Texas and MN as far as edges go for relationships, is that Cory’s brother can give him a much more accurate scoop as to how Tubby really runs his program. Tristan is also a student with Cory, so he doesn’t know. That could be a plus or a minus, but I am of the mind that more information in this case is better. If there is some dissatisfaction with how something is done, then if Barnes isn’t being upfront with Cory, Cory should have enough evidence to question what he has been told. Who knows, right?

Cojo

years and years of conditioning. So often we have cause for hope, but usually it does not materialize.
