Tubby to the NBA
I was listening to a Lexington, KY radio station today which I believe was the local ESPN affiliate. They had a curious thing on the air. The began by talking about how the coach (Larry Brown) of the Charlotte Bobcats was going to be pushed "upstairs" by Jordan after the season ends, and the team would be looking for a new coach and Tubby Smith would probably be their top choice. Then the announcer said a curious thing: "We know that Smith is VERY UNHAPPY AT MINNESOTA, and he would be perfect for this job and would probably take it if it was offered."
Well, that's the first time I've ever heard that Tubby was very unhappy in Minnesota. I know he wants an up dated practice facility but I've never heard anyone say he was unhappy, including himself. It got me to wondering why a a UK booster would be saying that. Was he trying in some way to say that Tubby never wanted to leave UK? Or that Tubby was happier at UK than anywhere he's ever been? Or was it something else. I just thought you'd like to hear what's being said in Kentucky about Tubby.

Funny
Funny how he hates it here. I don’t think the two recruits we just got would’ve committed here, if they thought he was going. I think he will finish out his career at the U. He’s said countless times before that he and his family are happy here and don’t want to leave.

The reality is this....
He has a huge pension in his contract, so he will finish it out. the 2nd “unwritten” agreement if he stays is that Saul Smith will be the next Gophers head coach. You can mark it down, its a done deal. That my friends will keep Tubby at MN….his son doesn’t have to languish coaching at places like Tulsa for his first head coaching job…he should step right into a system and established program left by his father.
I've never heard of anything official or unofficial
but from day one I assumed that was the case. He’ll do exactly Dick Bennett did for Tony when he took the Wash St job. Tubby will be around longer than a couple years but he’ll retire handing the reigns to Saul.

Good takes
As the rumor mill continues to churn out possible (if not probable) destinations for Tubby, I hadn’t considered the fact that it might be better for Saul if he stays at Minnesota. That being said, as long as another school agreed that Saul could remain on Tubby’s coaching staff, they could potentially have the same unwritten agreement at any other major program as well.
true
but would they honor it? If you get more prestigious, chances are they will balk at such a guarantee.
