Weber named starting QB
It's official, Brewster announced that Weber will be starting QB for your Golden Gophers.
"We thoroughly evaluated every aspect of quarterback play throughout the spring and Adam has earned the right to be the starter entering the 2010 season," Brewster said. "MarQueis Gray will be our No. 2 quarterback, with Moses Alipate No. 3.
"We are fortunate to have three very talented young men who can all lead our team. In the final analysis, Adam's command of the offense, his leadership, decision-making and his overall play won out and right now we believe he provides our program with its best opportunity for success."

Having Gray serve as backup QB this upcoming season would lead to the end of Brewster’s career as Gophers coach. If Gray knows the playbook, he knows all the WR routes. Get him on the field this year, and let Alipate serve as principal backup when Weber is on the field.
+1
I’m not sure I’ll even have the stomach to watch these games this year.

c’mon it’s not like it’s Wacker’s last year. We have a new OC, Weber motivated to redeem himself and get into position to sign as an undrafted free agent, and our defense should be serviceable.

The facts on the ground
(FACTS ON THE GROUND! FACTS ON THE GROUND):
(1) Weber is 14-24 as a starting QB, is 0-9 in rivalry games, and is 0-2 in bowl games;
(2) He has lost one of the greatest WRs in school history as a target;
(3) This is the fourth offensive coordinator he’s worked under since 2006;
(4) His running back corps is either pedestrian, or, not yet on campus and unproven;
(5) The most talented O-linemen on the team this year will likely be redshirted;
(6) The Gophers will likely have 9-10 new starters on defense (depending on Royston). C’mon, not even Nick Saban can instantly turn that many new faces into a unit that is middle of the road in the Big Ten or better;
(7) Have I mentioned: at 10 win Middle Tennessee, at home to USC, Penn State, Ohio State, Iowa, at Wisconsin, Purdue and Sparty?
Weber is the best pick for QB for 2010. However, if the team makes it to 6-6 that will probably be considered a fantastic season. But, that’s not why Brewster was hired. Brewster was hired for the Rose Bowl – he said so himself. 20-30 after four years probably isn’t good enough, not without a rivalry win and not without other teams (Michigan State, Michigan, Purdue, etc.) outrecruiting Brewster and poised to overtake Minny in the standings by 2011.
Agreed...
A lot like Tebow getting time as RB when Chris Leak was still at UF… You can still become a productive QB. Is there any reason we aren’t considering MG at RB… besides his case of fumble-itis.
Maybe they are
and we’re just not hearing about it. However, the fact that they specifically said Gray is the number 2 QB would indicate to me that they want him playing QB and not other positions. Which, I feel is a waste of the man’s considerable talents.
One more interesting note.
If Minnesota ever plans to go back to Pasadena, it better do it soon.
Once Big Ten Expansion happens, the league will include either Notre Dame or Nebraska. Or, one more roadblock to Minnesota ever going back to the Rose Bowl.
We'll always have that slice of Pasadena turf Brewster brought in.
The best thing about this season is it ought to be Brewster’s last.

This is the hard thing for me...
I don’t want to sit through another crap season. But I don’t think Brew will succeed in the long term (i.e. I think its more likely that a good season this year will be a one time deal versus a sign of more success to come). It’s my optimism clashing with my desire for a better coach.
If we have a good season
it won’t be a fluke the schedule is just too tough.
Clearly Brewster has a lot to learn, when you have no prior college head coaching experience I think you have to give him 5 years to develop. It is hard to be patient when we have been so bad or just mediocre or have been teased then let down for soooooo long.
"they're calling insane hogs???"
Again
Brewster said when he showed up that he didn’t need to rebuild because Mason left him plenty of talent (darn, then Greg Jones goes and de-commits).
Brewster also said when he was hired that he had prepared all his life for this moment, through working for Mack Brown, and then getting his “football doctorate” at Denver and San Diego.
So, if you’re right, yet again Brewster was hired based upon the lie that he knew what he was doing from the get-go. Well done Maturi.
Perception vs. Reality
He said he was prepared but obviously he wasn’t, nothing is better than experience. He now has three years behind him let’s see what he does now.
Are you going to Rush at the State Fair JG?
"they're calling insane hogs???"
Indeed
I was rather surprised that they are playing the State Fair, but why not play outside in August, instead of the X?
And, Moving Pictures in its entirety, that will be a treat.
Are you going to be there?
Oh yeah!
Never seen a concert at the State Fair and it will be awesome to finally hear “The Camera Eye” live!

What could really hurt
is if Charlie Strong turns Louisville into a contender.
