Sam Maresh No Longer a Gopher
To make a long story short, he partied too much and flunked out. Here's the story at the Star Tribune.
He claims that he may try to rejoin the Gophers in a few years, but there's a vacancy at Adams College, and in the Alpha Beta fraternity, for a new Ogre:

He wouldn't have to change his ways one bit to fit the bill.

This sucks
I was not logging in to see more bad news for the Gophers. The defense is in real trouble.
FS – suspended
SS – broken leg
MLB – suspended for fleeing from police
MLB 2 – academic casualty
what you say here can, and will, be used against you The Daily Gopher
This could be a really ugly year starting day 1
Having recently viewed the bowl film of both schools I have to say this:Going into Middle Tennessee, a well run, experienced spread offense coming off a 42 point shellacking of Southern Miss to cap a 10 win season, is not boding well for a sound start, with a defense that is going to be trying to find its self right up until kickoff.
That being said it is a holiday weekend and a beautiful drive… road trip anybody?
It would be a perfect road trip
if it wasn’t on a frakkin Thursday.

What a shame, and yet more depressing news. Something is amiss in gopher football land. Too many players in trouble. Where are the 4 star recruits? New stadium, great sports area and city, what is missing? We may see another season repeating Brewster’s year 1, the disasterous 1-11 no defense team. It is really going to hurt to see this program lose to Middle Tennessee State, South Dakota, Northern Illinois, and again to Wisconsin, not to mention the given losses to Ohio State, USC, Penn State, and Iowa. The school colors should be changed to gray to represent the cloud over the program. I wonder how much of the university even cares? We need CPR, AED, Transfusion etc.

Brewster
I think this only adds more fuel to the fire for Brewster’s head. I’ve been mildly supportive of him and patient from a time standpoint, but you have to start pointing some blame towards him for all of these off the field problems as well.
Since the middle of last year, I was predicting a 4-8 (1-7) record for this year. I still think we can achieve that, and a 6-6 record buys Brewster some more time. But a 4-8 record or worse gets him axed.
The U really messed up on this hire.
The way things are lining up over time, perhaps the angst should be pointed at Maturi. He whiffed in not hiring Brian Kelly or Charlie Strong in 2007, badly. We’re about to find out how bad this fall.
As for Brew, he’s done what he was asked to. He wasn’t asked to coach, I guess.
And he deserves credit for the APR gains.
But the defense is scary thin, as in, 2009 Michigan thin without the recruiting rankings. We all know how that turned out, and Minnesota’s schedule is WAY more tougher this year.
There really seem to be some poor
practices as it relates to the hiring of coaches and their staffs. Very little organizational thought and foresight.

Great Point
I didn’t understand not hiring Strong at all. Did we interview Kelly as well?
Strong would have helped the program in every way. Pedigree, recruiting, AND coaching. I still don’t understand how that happened. Stupid.
If Strong does well
at Louisville we can get him IF Brew fails. At this point though he has to prove himself a good head coach.
"they're calling insane hogs???"
Why?
That wasn’t a prerequisite for hiring Brewster.
And if recruiting was the key factor, who has done better in areas where teams need to recruit well than Strong and his staff of assistants? I realize it’s easy to recruit Florida when you’re Florida, but in one month at Louisville he got more highly acclaimed recruits than Brewster got in the entire 2010 cycle.
Strong’s Rolodex comes with him. He knows what he’s doing, and he has coordinator experience, which Brewster had ZERO of when hired.
I was not
defending the Brew hiring criteria in any way, but just because Brewster was hired for his supposed recruiting ability doesn’t let Strong off the hook for having to prove himself as a good coach.
Looking at his recruiting class it was ranked #48 by Yahoo he had one more 4-star and the same number of 3-star. Pretty good considering he had less time than Brewster.
More importantly what do you think of the 2 new songs JG? I think they are really good but not really surpassing anything S & A.
