Dasher's status to be announced at 11:30am
Less than an hour to go before we know whether or not Dwight Dasher will be taking snaps against the Gophers in the season opener next Thursday. All signs certainly point toward him being suspended, even though there have been no formal charges to this point. Here is an excerpt from the Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro, who by the way has done a tremendous job covering this story over the last week.
The press conference was previously slated as a preview to the Minnesota game. But before the regular portion of the press conference, athletic director Chris Massaro will read a brief statement and give an update on Dasher’s situation amid a university inquiry and police investigation about the quarterback’s alleged gambling activities in poker games.
Dasher’s reps in practice have decreased over the last two days, giving more work to junior college transfers Logan Kilgore and Jeff Murphy. If Dasher does not play, MTSU will put a quarterback on the field that has not taken a Division I snap.

There are now rumors that MTSU’s coach and athletic directior believe the alleged offenses committed by Dasher are “not sufficient to suspend him from playing in the upcoming game.” So, while media reports considered a suspension to be likely, it now seems to be a total toss up whether or not he will play. We’ll know soon enough.

Time zones
I guess Murfreesboro, TN, is in the Central time zone, not Eastern (who knew?) so the announcement on Dasher’s status won’t be coming until a 11:30 am (CST) press conference. Still nice to know we beat Star Tribune beat writer Phil Miller to the story. Phil blogged about the upcoming press conference an hour after we did.

Yup, Dasher has been suspended
Considering their opponents will now be starting a QB that has never thrown a pass in a D1 football game, feel free to chalk up the first ‘W’ of the season for the Gophs. Here’s a link to the statement from MTSU’s athletic director:
