First of all Dom Alford and Kyle Theret have been suspended for unspecified team rule violations. I think we can guess at Theret's but Alford's indiscretions are a new item.
Nothing on offense really stands out as unexpected. I think there was a chance that MarQueis would end up on the WR depth chart but that didn't happen. Ed Olson did earn that start at LT and he's being backed up by Dom Alford.
Defensively there are a few notes that are interesting. Matt Garin is the surprise starter ahead of Ra'Shede Hageman. The starting linebackers were a minor question mark but the starters play out as expected with the former walk-on, Aaron Hill backing up both OLB spots. And the secondary is kind of a mess. James Manuel gets the start as a true freshman and he's backed up by a redshirt freshman in Kenny Watkins. Brock Vereen is the second string corner giving us a total of 9 freshmen (either true or redshirted) on the defensive two-deep.
Special teams' only real surprise is Ryan Collado as the primary punt returner.
This is the group that will attempt to take down the Blue Raiders on Thursday night! What do you think Gopher fans?

Glad to see that Hoese is going to be playing.
Interesting that our defense which was returning only 2 starters will be kicking off the season with ZERO.
"We're talking about unchecked aggression here, Dude."

The Daily Gopher
no actual word on Hoese
notice that Alford is on the depth chart as well, but he won’t be playing.

Surprises
What happened to all the hype with Johnny Johnson? Is the reason Ra’Shede Hageman isn’t starting because of technique type stuff? Or doesn’t he have the motor/heart to be the guy? I love our size up front on the D line. I can remember us always being undersized. That and our being deep will serve us well against run teams like Ohio State, Iowa, Wisconsin and Penn State. I think we’ll be a contender for a Jan bowl next year if we can hold serve this year. I’m stoked for Thursday!
Brewster quote...
“He’s a little bit ahead of Ra’Shede right now from a fundamental standpoint, from a technique standpoints,”

Definitely Ready For Some Football!
Taking a huge swipe at those experience questions folks like to toss around here. I LOVE IT!
What does it mean...
…that Alford is listed as the 2nd team? Does that mean his suspension is only a game, but Theret’s will be longer? Does it mean Alford lost his starting job even when he does return?
I could see Royston not playing until the conference schedule starts. I fear he and the coaching staff may have pushed him too hard to come back after that injury.
I'd like to see Royston
take a Medical redshirt year. He’s a tough kid who could be at great asset at 100% next year. I’d hate to see him play hurt and have a sporadic senior year. There’s no way he’ll be at 100% before midseason with an injury of that severity.
Buck Bravo
not sure what it means
My assumption is that Alford is the #2 LT and that Theret’s transgressions were deeper and he’ll have to work his way back into the two-deep.

I am beyond pumped
And i will be there. Frikken cant wait. Its the best thing the first game of the season and everyone is excited to see what the teams got. Go Gophers make us proud!
Suggestions?
Anyone know of a radio station that broadcasts games over the internet? I’m deployed, so most/all of the streaming options are blocked, and they aren’t showing the game on AFN. Thanks.
I'll look into it.
Have you tried Gold Zone? I’m sure they’ll be broadcasting the game.
We’ll have an open thread here and we’ll be talking about it. I’ll also be sending twitter updates when scoring/significant plays happen. But that’s not the same thing.
ESPN 3 (formerly ESPN 360) will also be streaming the game but you’ll probably run into the blocking thing. If I find anything I’ll e-mail you.

It looks like the links you gave are going to work (except for ESPN). Go Gophers!

God Help Us
Collado is starting. That means we have no one better than Collado, which equates to a DII backfield.
