Devoe Joseph's Mother indicates her son is leaving the program
"No, there’s [no turning back]," she said Tuesday. "I'm going with him [Tuesday] morning to pick up his release papers. He wishes the team well. It’s a tough thing."
She added: "I don’t expect anything to change."
I have never been a huge Joseph guy, but this is never good.

Is that whatever he’s done or going through is embarrassing to him, and Tubby is taking the high road of respect by keeping it at a high level “he’s going through some things”.
Kid had highest of hopes and dreams for the season. He then ran into some problems with rules of some sort. This caused a downward spiral.
Tubby could come out and air this kid’s dirty laundry but he’s not…he’s letting him go play elsewhere.
I don’t see this being good or bad for the program. I see it as normal attrition/issues of immature kids. Just my .02…
Could it be
he couldn’t convince his little bro to come here, so now he’s transferring to Texas? LOL

Devoe Joseph, we hardly knew ye
It’s pretty clear watching Joseph that he doesn’t fit particularly well into Tubby’s system (not a good distributor, not a good defender). He’s definitely a good scorer, though. And that’s what this team needs more than anything, which is why this loss will only exacerbate the problems of prolonged scoring droughts and the lack of a go-to guy in late-game situations. Too bad. I liked Devoe. Should we be at all concerned that this is an example of Tubby not catering to his talent enough to get the best out of his recruits? I’m hoping we see good enough things from Austin Hollins or Chip Armelin to make this a moot point. Armelin, by the way, is definitely deserving of more PT, in my opinion.

I like Armelin best of this group of freshmen
I hope he gets some meaningful minutes and does something with them.

The silver lining...
…another opportunity for Tubby to prove he is one of the best coaches in the country. They did look better without Joseph than with him this season.

The silver lining (part 2)...
We will finally get the shorter bench most of us have been clamoring for, which will give the guys more of a chance to get into the flow of the game. Our shooting should improve without the wholesale line changes. The shorter bench we played in Peurto Rico was more of a factor in us playing better without Devoe than his play imo.
Really?
Do you really think Tubby is one of the best X’s and O’s guys in the country? That intrigues me…I don’t see it in anything he’s done. My gut says if you give 3-4 other big 10 coaches Minnesota’s size and talent, they’d take it farther than Tubby can…but I have nothing to really base that on other than general observation and disappointment with Tubby’s schemes.
And "Mom", really????
That speaks VOLUMES to the jackass we are dealing with here…his freaking mother goes public with a statement. He can’t man the fu*k up himself…
This kid is a piece of shit. I can’t see him go quickly enough. Mom? Jesus…
Easy...
…this is still a kid we are talking about. A lot of kids have troubles in college who don’t have the added pressure of playing basketball. This isn’t anything unusual, really. No need to slander him like that. Given the fact that there isn’t any public information on this, it doesn’t sound like he is in trouble with the law or anything. He hardly deserves your ire.
We should all (Joseph, fans, the University) just move on and wish each other well. Your comments are more fitting for other blogs where people say things equivalent to what you find scrawled on bathroom walls. Let’s stay classy here, eh?
That is fair
and deserved. I apologize. Though I still think low of him, you are correct I was overboard.
Let’s move onward and upward…
his mom was pretty involved in recruiting as well
as I recall she wanted him at Minnesota and his influential AAU coach wanted him elsewhere.

Just pointing out
That when he was out earlier this year, everyone was saying we lost our best player. Don’t necessarily agree, but it is still the same player we’re losing.
"If the world were perfect, it wouldn't be." - Yogi Berra
Not our best player by any stretch.
This team has some big problems and will be lucky to make the NCAA (yes, it hurts to say this after our promising start). We struggled at home to arguably the worst team in the Big 10. For some reason we have problems at home, problems on the road, struggles and struggles. We always point to “they played the game of their life against us”…but come on, eventually that gets old. Not everybody is playing out of their minds against us…it’s our defense that feeds it!
I will be the first to raise my hand and admit surprise at our struggles…but we certainly have no basis for crying Top 25, and right now if we keep playing like this we will be a bubble team at best, if not NIT bound.
I disagree
we are not a top 20 team but I think we’ll make the tournament. Maybe a bubble team or maybe just off the bubble, but we’ll get in.
