Happy Friday, one and all!
Not so happy a Friday for Gopher fans, as the U suffered a tough, tough loss to Penn State 66-63. The Gophs didn't play their best, but after a furious 23-10 run late in the second half to take a lead with two minutes left, But they couldn't stop Talor Battle late and the Nitts prevailed, moving the Gophers further onto the NCAA tourney bubble.
Gopher women's hoops didn't fare any better, losing 60-50 to Purdue.
AD Joel Maturi met with Tubby on Wednesday to give him an update on the proposed basketball practice facility. Probably a short meeting, as they're still well short of the needed funds to build it.
Gopher baseball gets a challenging weekend of games in Florida. I would love some challenges that involved Florida and over 70 degrees.
Freshman center (and Minnesota Wild draft pick) Eric Haula is regaining his scoring touch. He, and rest of the team, will need it, as the Gophs will again be without senior captain and leading scorer Jay Barriball for this weekend's series with the Badgers, who is still suffering from that undisclosed lower body injury.
Adam Rittenberg has a spring preview of the
Legends West division. Minnesota starts practice March 24, with the spring game still scheduled for April 23. Yes, that's Easter weekend, and no, there's been nothing official about that date changing because of Easter.
