Gophers Lose BTT Opener
Ten losses out of 11 games. That's how Tubby Smith's fourth version of maroon and gold finishes the season. Neither GN or I can stomach writing a game thread, so let's just have it it in the comments section. This team has clearly quit. It quit a long time ago. What a disaster this season turned into.
More later, until then vent. .......

Not since Joseph left and Al went down…..This was the hardest game to watch all season….even the late game meltdowns didn’t break my heart like this one….just going through the motions……I wasn’t a big Joseph fan, but we could of sure used a vocal leader on this team after Al was injured…..

not sure he was a vocal leader at all
but we sure could have used a guard who is capable of scoring, shooting and who has played Big Ten basketball. Even his defense would have been an improvement.

I Was There
U R correct. Lousy game the last 10 minutes of second half.
When NWU flipped 44-42 deficit into 55-45, Gophers (players AND coaches) spit the bit.
Gophers played poor D in lane and on perimeter. They had big height advantage but never used it. Or not very often.

What a disappointing season. It’s going to be interesting sifting through the ashes and seeing who gets blamed for what. I will never forget the high of being at at the upset of Purdue at the Barn. The lows at the end of the season really took the wind out of our sails.
Let’s start thinking about next year soon, but I personally would like see senior retrospective, because I think we are losing two great players, and both local. Not all time greats, but they had a fun run and the program will have to adapt. But that’s what makes College hoops fun, right?!
I sense a serious disconnect
between the coaching staff and players.
I sense a disconnect between Gophers Players...
…and reality. Examples?
RSIII buzzing about going pro.
Mbakwe, after one successful season on a horse-shit team buzzing about going pro.
Rodney Williams and lottery pick being used in the same sentence.
I’ve been really hard on Tubby…but the more I look at this team, the more I question the heart and soul of these players, and whether they are willing to blindly buy into Tubby’s system, work ethic, and deliver on his expecations (including the hard work it takes to do so). I look at this team as, aside from Mbakwe, being a bunch of really soft basketball players. Rec Center All-Stars maybe….but soft, wimpy, weak for this level of the game.
Can I blame Tubby for recruiting these types of guys? Maybe…but I’m not going to….I’ve decided to personally give Tubby a totally free pass on this season. These players need to dig down and make a commitment to improvement before next season. Tubby needs to individually meet with EVERY guy coming back and lay it out on the line. You either show the fu&* up next season willing to work, or feel free to get your bitch-ass out of here. End. Of. Story.
Actually
RSIII wants to declare for the draft and see where he stands. Pretty common for juniors to do that.
Mbakwe will graduate this year and is the father of a 3 year old girl. It makes sense to see if he can start a pro career.
Rodney has consistently said he needs to improve. No one with any sense calls him a lottery pick.

I hate the thought
of this team next year without TM.
He has a young kid
He may opt for the paycheck in Europe, though I think that is a mistake. The paycheck will be there later.
If He Can Get Paid To Play (Wherever)
I think he should go and probably will.

I have lost all motivation to blog
I just can’t come up with any words (for any sport) worth typing. (insert joke about nothing I type is worth typing)

I'm not even motivated to work today
I’ve done virtually nothing and it is 12:30

We have a solid core returning
but desperately need a dfiference maker. If TM returns and we get a newcomer to fill Al’s shoes, we could be OK. OK as in middle of the road. But yeah, suffering from a big-time case of apathy at the moment.
