First 4 Years Brought 80 W > What Must Next 5 Years Bring?
Presuming (for sake of discussion) a 2 year extension is signed to keep Gopher coaching staff intact for 2012-2016 seasons:
1 - 120 W over next 5 seasons
2 - 10 W in NCAA over next 5 seasons
3 - at least one B10 and one B10T title over next 5 seasons
The Gopher coach had averaged 24 W in his career prior to coming to Minnesota. He averaged 2 W per NCAA appearance in his career before Minnesota. He won 7 conference titles and 5 conference tourney championships in 16 years.
That was his resume in 2007.
Those should be targets for next 5 years.

Both good items.
I think your assessment of what the next five years should bring and the article by Fuller are both fair. The Big 10 Title might be the hardest thing to achieve. There’s always some “powerhouses” in the Big Ten.
Matt Painter
He took Purdue team that had 7 W and 9 W seasons (back-2-back) to 128 W (so far) the past 5 seasons (2007 through 2011) so it CAN be done.

Stud recruits
In order to get the biggest recruits to a non-long term powerhouse (Kentucky, Duke, UNC, Kansas, etc.), you need to have two things: a campus/facility to draw the player, and playing time. The Gophers the last couple years have pretty much had a team set already for the next season, so recruiting a guy who wants to play immediately is a challenge. However, the next couple of years should absolutely set the Gophers up for getting a big guy or two as they will have open spots up and down the roster with Nolen and Hoffarber done and likely Mbakwe and possibly even Williams going to the NBA. Iverson and Sampson will leave the post after 2011-2012, so there’s going to be a definite chance for someone big to come in. We’ll have a chance to see Tubby show his recruiting acumen, or lack thereof, in the next few years to determine his own long-term fate.

And Joe Coleman is the favorite to be named Mr Basketball in Minnesota.

Stud Recruits (At Kentucky)
His best recruiting there was in 2004 (7 years after he arrived).
The 2004 UK team had 3 excellent seniors – Gerald Fitch, Erik Daniels, Cliff Hawkins – and Antwain Barbour.
He replaced them with Joe Crawford, Randolph Morris, Rajon Rondo and Ramel Bradley.
