Iverson out...Wish it were RSIII

From the Startribune.com and Myron Medcalf:

"The Gophers lost their fifth player in nearly a year when junior center Colton Iverson was granted a release from his scholarship earlier this week, according to Iverson's former AAU coach Lance Friesen and a source close to the program.

Friesen said the Gophers coaching staff asked Iverson to reconsider before releasing him.

Based on the conditions of his release, Iverson can't transfer to another Big Ten school or to a program that the Gophers face next season.

If he transfers to a Division I school, he'll have to sit out for year but he'll be eligible to play during the 2012-13 season.

"It was a little bit of a process, it took about a week," Friesen said. "They asked him to think it over."

Iverson earned All-Big Ten tournament honors last year but averaged 5.4 points and 5.0 rebounds in 18.3 minutes during the 2010-11 season."

Star-divide

Well this may be the extra scholarship that we have been hearing about.  They asked him to stay...it may be how a NY company bought out My MN company and wanted me to stay with the company...but they pay was Minneapolis pay in Manhattan.  So I made the choice to "Leave" the company...funny how things can get a spin.  The staff and Tubby may have gave CI and offer he could not refuse.  AKA hit the bricks.

I never liked Iverson...

…so I welcome this news. But what I don’t like is it’s just more head-scratching noise within the program. Guy wanting out. Some sort of internal issue.

Watching teams like Butler, Richmond, VCU, Morehead State, even Marquette to some extent, succeed (and some in this list succeed somewhat regularly, like Butler!), we need a coach who actually has a system, and recruits to fill his system. Tubby is recruiting the most talented guys who will come to the program. He needs to decide what he wants and get guys who fit that system. You can’t have a team based on defense and three point shooting, then not get any three point shooters. The guy gets 10 7 footers (okay, 2 or 3), and then never throws it in the post. It’s ludicrous.

I don’t know….Tubby needs a good 2011/2012. I guess that’s the bottom line. Then I hope he either has exactly that….or that we are saying we need a “Jerry Kill” type of hire!!!!!

Who knew beating Iowa in football, let alone our football team would produce the biggest highlight in my Gopher sports journey in the last 9 months if not longer….crazy times in Dinkytown

I love that pig

Even if I can’t eat it.

No one is getting Rubio's rights unless they pry them from our cold dead fingers.
