Ralph Sampson Declares for NBA Draft
Most of us realize that this is just procedural and not that big of a story. Sampson is declaring but not hiring an agent. He will test the waters to get feedback from people within the League. Assuming he finds that he will not be drafted in the first round, or even in the second, he will then return to the Gophers for his senior season.

What universe does he live in??
The thought of RS3 playing in the paint of the NBA is ludicrous.
Maybe 3 Or 4 But Not 5
Can’t see him as C in NBA as it stands now.

I'm confused as well...
…it’s one thing if a guy is pretty good…like a Mbakwe, who is very undersized as a 4 in the NBA but doesn’t have the style of game for an NBA 3 and needs feedback in howa team would look at him come draft day…but WTF is Sampson III going to learn? He’s 7 feet tall and is a 5 no matter where he plays (Europe). He’s soft, plays smaller than he should, needs to develop consistent offense, needs to play with some form of passion and fire or the NBA will DESTROY him, needs to get physically stronger and is a 3rd rounder at best? OK, I just saved him the embarrassment by telling him this here, now…..
Or MAYBE it’s telling the fan base he’s now officially “serious” about playing basketball and will arrive on Halloween or whenever the first practice is with a fire in his belly and another 15 lbs of muscle to accompany a more dominant inside game offensively!!!!
OK, silly….my bad…
Doesn't matter either way
Gophers will probably be a better team if (read: when) Sampson comes back for his senior season. But if he goes Rick Rickert on us and stays in the draft, I won’t be sorry that it means more minutes for Mo Walker and Elliason.
Journalism. Enhanced.
Myron with the Star Trib is reporting that
RSIII’s AAU Coach is saying that he’s pretty serious about keeping his name in the draft… wow, what an horrible move on his part if he indeed does stay in the draft pool.
Is this a form of transferring?
Does he not like playing for Tubby?
Maybe he thinks he can play point in the NBA
Since he can’t play down low.

He should learn the words for the national anthem that'll be playing before his pro games

Everyone fails. The successful learn from their failures. I just wish we'd quit giving ourselves so many learning opportunities.

OKay for the sake of fairness
Lets run down the things RSIII does well. Maybe this will shine some light on his thought process.
1. Nice consistent jump shot
2. Is 7 feet tall
3. Matches up well against Mike Tisdale
4. Does a funny little dance when the starting lineups are announced
5. Frustates fans with his consistently inconsistent play, and lack of passion.
Yeah I guess i can see how he thinks hes NBA ready.
to be fair
nobody in the NBA plays with much passion for 3/4 of all regular season games.
And he is 7’ tall with a decent jump shot.
what you say here can, and will, be used against you The Daily Gopher

RS3
has to realize he has very little chance of playing in the NBA right now. The guy would be broken physically and mentally very quickly. I am wondering if this is an indictment against Tubby?? It sure seems like guys do not want to play for him and showing it in more ways than one.
Maybe...
He can play WR for the Gophers? He isn’t physical, but imagine him in a hail mary situation!
